Veteran Dale Kieffer held off the charge of young gun Lex Hartl and Karl Lowry to take his first SoCal Track Days Unlimited Shootout win this weekend with the Chuckwalla Valley Motorcycle Association. Kieffer, riding his Michelin-shod Suzuki GSX-R1000, led from start to finish, posting a best time of 1:50.891 in the counter-clockwise direction that the club raced for its September outing. Kieffer’s best time came on the final lap, as Hartl had pushed his Dunlop-shod Yamaha YZF-R6 past the Dunlop-shod YZF-R6 of Lowry and set sail for Kieffer. Hartl ran a 1:50.499 on his final lap, but came up just short of Kieffer at the line. Lowry, still recovering from a back injury suffered in a crash this summer, took third and protected a healthy lead in the Unlimited Shootout points chase. Behind them, Bill McCoy and Kenny Perez battled throughout the race on their BMW S1000RRs, turning nearly identical lap times, with McCoy getting the nod at the end. Kieffer also took the wins in Formula Open and SuperSport Open on Saturday. Hartl won the Formula Middleweight and SuperSport Middleweight races on Saturday, and took the SuperSport Middleweight win on Sunday before crashing in the Formula Middleweight race on Sunday while trying to hold off a charging Ryan Matter on his Suzuki GSX-R600. Matter took the win in Formula Middleweight, as well as the win in the TrackDaz Middleweight Shootout. Young Tyler Linders continued his stunning recent form this weekend. Having moved up to a full-sized bike a Suzuki SV650 at the beginning of this season, Linders has been on a tear, winning the Formula Twins races on both days and the Lightweight Shootout on Sunday. In the process, Linders turned a lap of 1:53.862, more than three seconds under the existing fastest lap for Lightweight Twins.
