The final round of the California State Championship presented by Dunlop saw some of the biggest names from across California converge on the 2.5 mile Willow Springs International Raceway circuit, with a couple new lap records and fast action.

Bryce Prince of WSMC, put on another great show in 600 Superbike, 750 Superbike and Formula 1, taking away the wins in all three classes for California State Championship. Prince had this to say,” My bike felt great, I felt great, and it was an awesome weekend. I’m still a little tired from running at New Jersey, but my equipment and set up this weekend gave me a really good feel so I could just put my head down and ride.”

AFM’s James Randolph suffered some mechanical issues, and finished the weekend out on two borrowed motorcycles to ride to his class championships a Kawasaki 636 and a Ninja 250. Randolph had this to say, ” I ‘d like to thank Ricky Herd and Alex Eisner for the loan of their motorcycles. I needed to finish all the races to hold onto to my points in class. It was getting very close with Martin Szwarc in the points race, and I really appreciate their help.”

Other highlights included young Tyler Linders of WERA setting two new lap records, one in 650 GP of 1:27.198 and one in Formula Twins Lightweight of 1:28.725, taking the win and rocketing up into fourth place overall in the 650 Twins class. The battle for Formula Femme heated up between Krystyna Kubran and Christie Cooley going into this last race, Cooley held a 17 point lead over Kubran. When the green flag dropped, Kubran took off with Cooley hot on her heels. Kubran put a good lead on Cooley, and Cooley was holding good pace when she suffered a mechanical and managed to limp her bike to this finish, just holding on to her lead in the class and clinching the overall class championship. AFM’s Bill Wickersham fielded a Fischer MRX650 this weekend in the Formula 40 lightweight class, the first time this motorcycle brand has been raced in the championship, finishing sixth and giving him the overall class championship.

In the end when the dust cleared, Bryce Prince beat out Martin Szwarc and James Randolph for the overall number one spot of California State Champion.

“I’ve really enjoyed watching the camaraderie of the racers build during this second season of California State Championship,” said Shandra Crawford, Organizer. “I know it’s been a tough year for a lot of us, and I really appreciate everyone’s participation and hope you all have enjoyed competing as much as we’ve enjoyed watching all of you race.

“And I could have never done any other this without the help and support of the following people, companies, and organizations: Dunlop for being the title sponsor, Rich Oliver’s Mystery School, Guardian Commercial Realty, Leo Vince, Factory Bodyworks, San Diego BMW Motorcycles, Woodcraft CFMotorsports, Safari Cycles, Catalyst Reaction, SBK Paint.com, Galfer, Driven, GoPro, GPR Stabilizers. RK Excel chain, Cortech, Active Body Training, Cycle Pirates, Vanderkitten, and Uniform Speed for class sponsorship, rider and series support.

“WERA, AFM, and WSMC – thank you all for participating in this event. The cooperative effort is greatly appreciated. WSMC- thank you for hosting the final round, and special thanks to Ashley and Megan for doing such a good job keeping the event running smoothly. AFM thank you for letting me share an Infineon event again, and to Kathy, Paddy and Mary, the timing and scoring ladies, a big thanks for once again helping the event go well. Thanks to Evelyne from WERA for guidance, Guardian Commercial Realty for sponsoring the banquet in addition to sponsoring a class, and to my friends that helped me with all the aspects of this series, you have my deepest appreciation.” – Shandra Crawford – Organizer, California State Championship.
