Tamburini, 61 More, from a press release issued by Parkalgar Honda: Brilliant third for sore Sam PARKALGAR HONDA’S Sam Lowes rode through the pain barrier to take a brilliant podium third place at the ninth round of the World Supersport Championship at the Nurburgring in Germany. Miguel Praia was comfortable in 11th mid-race when his handlebar moved and combined with brake fade forced him to retire. Parkalgar was also second on the podium with James Ellison on the sister Bogdanka PTR bike. The next round of the Championship is at Imola in Italy on 25th September. Sam: “I want to apologise to the Parkalgar Honda team for the three crashes I had yesterday. I put them through a lot of work and harmed my own chances of winning by injuring myself. In the race the first five laps were like dying again I felt so bad. Then as the race wore on my injured foot got worse, making changing gear very difficult. I have learnt a lot in the race and everything is alright; it is good to get back on the podium. I am very happy for my team-mate James to get second. Now it is on to the next race and to keep learning and progressing.” Miguel: “The race started alright and I settled just behind the group for sixth. I lost some time on the first laps as there was not enough temperature in my rear tyre but I thought I could make the gap back after half distance. Then mid race the handlebar moved and it meant changing direction was very difficult and I was losing big time and my pace was going slower, I couldn’t do much. I tried to ride round it but then my front brake started to fade and I decided to pull in as I didn’t want to risk a crash. We know we have a good bike and pace, now I have three races left to get my best result this year.” Simon Buckmaster: “After the crashes Sam wasn’t anywhere near full fitness and the race wore him out; it was great to get on the podium in this condition. Sam really is beaten up – we are proud of him and his determination to finish. “Miguel rode a good race but his handlebar moved and he suffered brake fade. It is a shame for him as he would have got another strong points scoring finish but he is riding well and can look forward to the last three races of the year.” More, from a press release issued by Bogdanka PTR Honda: Superb second for Bogdanka’s Ellison at the Ring BOGDANKA PTR HONDA’s James Ellison took his first World Supersport podium of the season, finishing a close second after a race long battle for victory at the Nurburgring in Germany and moving up to eighth in the overall standings. His teammate Pawel Szkopek made a great start to pass five riders on the opening lap before eventually crashing out of the race with four laps to go. The Polish rider was taken to the hospital to undergo medical checks after hitting a kerb with his chest. The next round of the World Supersport Championship is at Imola in Italy on September 25th. James Ellison: “I dropped from the lead to sixth at one point but the bike was working really well and I managed to catch Chaz up and pull away with him. I tried everything to pass him but he was really strong on the brakes. However, I’m very happy with the podium. We knew even before the season started what we’re capable of and it’s great to make it happen. The team made some great setup changes over the summer break and I’ve managed to adjust my style a bit to suit it. It’s what you call team work.” Simon Buckmaster: “It would have been nice for James to have won the race. Two racers on the podium is a first for PTR so we are happy with that. James has been challenging at the front all weekend and it is great for him to show his true potential and a fantastic result. After this I am sure he can carry the momentum for the remainder of the season and keep Bogdanka at the front of the races. “Pawel got a decent start but then faded before crashing out. We hope the medical check will rule out any major injury and he will be able to come back soon.” More, from a press release issued by Infront Motor Sports: Chaz Davies (Yamaha ParkinGO) had to summon all his braking ability on the final few laps to prevent the rejuvenated James Ellison (Bogdanka PTR Honda) from passing him around the long Nürburgring circuit. Davies held him off to win by only 0.091 seconds, with third placed Sam Lowes (Parkalgar Honda) a lonely 3.7 seconds from the winner. Luca Scassa (Yamaha ParkinGO) went into the top four after a tough battle at times with fifth placed Massimo Roccoli (Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki) and sixth place Fabien Foret (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda). Broc Parkes (Provec Motocard.com Kawasaki) and David Salom (Provec Motocard.com Kawasaki) held off Florian Marino (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda), with Balazs Nemeth (Hungary Team Toth Honda) going tenth. More, from a press release issued by Ten Kate Honda: Foret sixth at Nurburgring Fabien Foret finished sixth in today’s ninth round World Supersport championship race at Nurburgring in Germany. The race was won by series leader Chaz Davies, with Honda riders James Ellison and Sam Lowes second and third respectively. Starting the 19 lap race around the 5.137km Nurburgring from pole position, Foret had a poor start but battled his way up to third place by lap seven. However, tyre issues began to affect the Frenchman’s CBR600RR and he was forced to drop places. After a wet warm-up this morning, Foret’s Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team-mate and compatriot, Florian Marino, was unable to resolve the handling issues that plagued him yesterday. The 18-year-old finished in ninth place. Fabien Foret P6 Apart from yesterday and the pole position, it’s been a pretty bad weekend with a wet start, a wet warm-up this morning and then that race, which couldn’t ha ve been much worse, really. I didn’t get a great start and then had some tyre and electronics issues. It was a bad race and I had no grip from the start. We didn’t change anything from yesterday, so I’m just very disappointed. Florian Marino P9 It’s been a difficult weekend since the wet start on Friday. When it was dry, we couldn’t find a solution to the sliding and corner entry problems that I had. We had something new for this morning in warm-up but then it was wet again so we couldn’t try it. I know the race would be difficult and my start was not so good. I passed some riders and got to eighth place but I didn’t have the same grip as the riders around me. I made some small mistakes on the last couple of laps, so it was a disappointing end to the weekend. Ronald ten Kate team manager We know that in World Supersport rac es pole position does not guarantee a victory and that was proven again today. The result was a lot worse than we expected and both riders struggled in the cooler conditions this afternoon compared to yesterday. At this moment it’s hard to judge exactly what went wrong. We’re still in the top three of the championship but not in the position that we would like so we need to turn things around for the last three races. There’s still a very slim chance for the title and until that door is finally closed we’ll continue to work hard and stay positive. More, from a press release issued by ParkinGO Yamaha Team: Yamaha ParkinGO Team gets closer to the world title. Chaz Davies stepped up on the top of the podium as well in Nurburgring, at the end of a battled race where he has done a spectacular remount. The Welch rider now is leader on the Championship with 59 points of advantage of the Kawasaki rider David Salom and 6o points of the Honda rider Fabien Foret. An advantage that will give him the chance of winning the championship already at the next round, Imola, three races for the end of the season. Very positive for Luca Scassa as well, finishing on fourth position getting back his confidence. The Italian rider, as his teammate, were stuck at the first corner and progressively improved positions riding through some great battles. Chaz Davies – Yamaha YZF R6 #7 – “It has been a difficult race. After two days of a great qualifying, I have lost too many positions at the start. When I saw myself in 10th position I got worried, but I haven’t lost concentration and slowly I climbed up. I overtook Ellison, leading the race at that stage, and tried to get away but today the bike was missing a bit of traction so I decided to close all the gaps. Even though I have a good advantage in the classification, the Team and me will keep concentrated until we reach our goal.” Luca Scassa – Yamaha YZF R6 #9 – “It has been a really nice race, I nearly got on the podium. After the start I got stuck and I had to get away from a couple of riders. Slowly I improved positions and the feeling of the bike. Then I got close to Roccoli and attacked, but twice I went off the track before I finally passed him. It has been hard, and lost the chance of reaching Lowes to fight for third place. Hopefully I will in Imola, one of my favorite circuits.” Giuliano Rovelli – team owner – “After a bad start both riders managed to brilliantly improve. Despite the stake, it has been great to watch Chaz go from tenth to first in only three laps. Only champions can do that. I am happy to see again Luca on the top positions. The second place is hopefully reachable! We are a close and professional Team, therefore I hope Yamaha let’s us manage the SBK pack for 2012.” More, from a press release issued by Kawasaki: Seventh And Eighth For Parkes And Salom As Roccoli Goes Top Five WSS, Nürburgring, Germany, 4 September 2011 David Salom and Broc Parkes each had to ride hard to stay in the top ten points scoring places today as Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki rider Massimo Roccoli scored a top five on his Ninja ZX-6R. The Nürburgring’s peculiarities proved difficult to match the official machines of Parkes and Salom to, with supported rider Roccoli finding a better race-day set-up after qualifying sixth on the grid. The race, held over 19 laps, was won by championship leader Chaz Davies. Salom’s eighth place in the race sees him maintain his second position overall, with Parkes fourth, only eight points behind his team-mate. Roccoli is ninth, on the same 62 point total as the two riders in front of him in the official rankings. Vittorio Iannuzzo (Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki) was 12th today, a good result in a race with 31 starters and 26 finishers. Unlike the second Superbike race, the track was dry for the Supersport contest. Broc Parkes: “We struggled a little but and we didn’t seem to have the usual engine performance here for some reason, from Friday on, and I struggled on the exit of some corners. I am not sure why. I did not have the grip I wanted in the race and I was sliding quite a bit. The four riders that I was with proved to be my race as the guys up ahead were too far away, so I just tried to win my race and did that at the end. I was seventh and this is not where we want to be. I tried my best and that is where we were today.” David Salom: “It has been difficult all weekend, with the front suspension set-up, and the bike is not wanting to enter the corner easily. When we push it brings us chatter. It was not possible to ride faster and really difficult to overtake. Broc was maybe the same but Roccoli was quite fast here so we know the Kawasaki can be good at this track. In the championship I am second but in Imola it is necessary to aim for the top places.” Massimo Roccoli: “This was a very important result for us and now it is also important to carry on scoring well right to the end of the season. I was really having to work hard at the end of the race when my tyres were worn but we made a good result. We are on the same points as the riders in front so now I will try to move up the championship standings, starting at Imola.”
