Brett McCormick, the Canadian who celebrated his 20th birthday by winning his sixth race of the season and his first Canadian Superbike Championship August 20 at Mosport International Raceway, plans to race his radX/BMW Motorrad S1000RR Superbike in this coming weekend’s AMA Pro Superbike Championship finale at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP). “Our year ended early in Canada, so I put together some money and decided to come down on my own. I guess we just didn’t want our season to end yet,” McCormick told Roadracingworld.com Thursday at NJMP. “We did really well this year up north. We got our bike working really good. Now I want to see how well we stack up with the AMA guys. Also, it’s to help find opportunities for next year, either in the States or overseas. I won the Canadian Superbike title, but I’m not sure if that’s enough for some people. So if we do well we’ll be able to add that to our season.” McCormick raced the entire 2010 season in the AMA Pro Superbike Championship and spent most of the year filling in for injured Aaron Yates on the Jordan Suzuki team. He finished ninth in the Championship, including a best finish of fourth at VIR and a 10th in Race One at NJMP. Although he won’t have to learn the track or the AMA Pro series’ Dunlop control tires, McCormick and his team, including veteran Crew Chief Patrice Goyette and mechanic Scott Cameron, will have to adapt his BMW to the Dunlops instead of the Pirelli spec tires that are used in the Canadian Championship. Asked what his goal for the AMA Pro weekend was, McCormick said, “I can’t even say. We’ve got a stock motorcycle. We’ve got stock wheels and stock brakes. I’d like to be sniffing the top five, but I won’t know until I get on the track.”
