Relentless Suzuki’s Josh Brookes secured his place in the ‘Top-Six Title Fighters’ Showdown at Cadwell Park today with fourth place in the opening British Superbike Championship race and also proved he is very much a Championship contender with a strong-and=commanding second place in race three. The Australian received rapturous applause for his performance in race two at Cadwell from fans who obviously believe yesterday’s controversial decision to exclude him from the results was harsh treatment after the incident with Michael Rutter. Josh Brookes: “I was a bit suspicious in the first race that we had a small tyre problem and we wisely didn’t change anything on the bike for race two. The whole GSX-R Suzuki package worked so much better and I was able to fight at the front and finish right on Tommy’s back wheel. Despite a few blips during the season, we always knew we were in with a chance of winning the title and we got the chance to prove that this weekend in the results. I’m really pleased how the weekend ended.” Philip Neill – Team Manager: “What a weekend. I’m certainly glad that one’s over but I’m also delighted how it ended for us. We made life difficult for ourselves at the start of the season and had to play catch up, but the combined package of Josh Brookes and our GSX-R Superbike is more than good enough for the job. He’s coming strong at the right time of the season and even though we would have liked a few more podium credits, the man who wins races in the final three rounds will undoubtedly be Champion. Donington, Silverstone and Brands are strong circuits for Josh and we firmly believe he will be in there challenging for victories. “On behalf of the whole team, we would like to pass on our deepest sympathy to Ben Gautrey’s family circle after the young man tragically lost his life today at Cadwell Park. We’d also like to mention local men Wayne Hamilton and good friend of TAS Racing, Adrian McFarland, who also sadly lost their lives in separate road racing crashes at the weekend.” BSB race two result: 1 Tommy Hill (Yamaha) 2 Michael Laverty (Yamaha) +1.700s 3 Shane Byrne (Honda) +3.460s 4 Josh Brookes (Relentless Suzuki by TAS) +6.067s 5 Peter Hickman (Honda) +18.892s 6 Jon Kirkham (Suzuki) +23.495s 7 Martin Jessopp (Ducati) +24.300s 8 Graeme Gowland [Honda] +24.424s 9 Ryuichi Kiyonari [Honda] +33.228s 10 Gary Mason (Kawasaki) +33.534s BSB race three result: 1 Tommy Hill (Yamaha) 2 Josh Brookes (Relentless Suzuki by TAS) +0.632s 3 Michael Laverty (Yamaha) +1.582s 4 Shane Byrne (Honda) +2.013s 5 Peter Hickman (Honda) +2.664s 6 Jon Kirkham (Suzuki) +3.622s 7 Ryuichi Kiyonari (Honda) +8.039s 8 Martin Jessopp (Ducati) +17.537s 9 Graeme Gowland (Honda) +18.386s 10 James Ellison (Honda) +20.465s British Superbike Championship standings: 1 Tommy Hill (Yamaha) 529 2 Shane Byrne (Honda) 522 3 John Hopkins (Suzuki] 518 4 Michael Laverty (Yamaha) 510 5 Josh Brookes (Relentless Suzuki by TAS) 509 6 Ryuichi Kiyonari (Honda) 508 More, from another press release issued by Team Suzuki News Service: Relentless Suzuki by TAS Racing’s Alastair Seeley was again involved in war of attrition with main British Supersport Championship rival Ben Wilson at today’s Cadwell Park ninth round – and but for a missed gear-change late in the race, could have taken another last-lap battle for top-step honours. Ulsterman Seeley took his 13th podium of the season in another fine performance on the all-new GSX-R600 Suzuki and will continue pushing for the title. Alastair Seeley: “There was a touch of déjà vu at the beginning of that second race: leading on the first lap and getting passed into turn one on lap two. I tried hanging on as best I could throughout the race but I hit a false neutral late in the race and lost valuable time. I then made a couple of mistakes trying to catch up again, so I decided it was better to settle for a safe second and more solid points.” Philip Neill – Team Manager: “On what has been a difficult track for Alastair in the past, this weekend the ‘Wee Man’ dug deep and it was good to see. From mid-race he was more than a match for Ben Wilson on our GSX-R600, but one little missed gear-change allowed Ben off the hook. We hold our hands up; he was in great form this weekend on his home track, but we’ll keep applying the pressure and see what happens. “On behalf of the whole team, we would like to pass on our deepest sympathy to Ben Gautrey’s family circle after the young man tragically lost his life today at Cadwell Park. We’d also like to mention local men Wayne Hamilton and good friend of TAS Racing, Adrian McFarland, who also sadly lost their lives in separate road racing crashes at the weekend.” British Supersport Championship – race two result: 1. Gary Johnson (Honda) +23.910s More, from a press release issued by AP Kawasaki: Russo Takes Hollow Cadwell Victory Freddie Russo and the AP Kawasaki team took a debut victory at Cadwell Park today when the Brentford rider claimed his and the team’s first ever victory in the Metzeler National Superstock 600cc Championship but the win was overshadowed by the death of fellow Kawasaki rider Ben Gautrey following an accident in the race. Russo was continuing his fine form from Brands Hatch and was again on the pace throughout the weekend putting his 600cc Kawasaki on the front row of the grid after qualifying third, only denied pole position by heavy traffic in the second qualifying session. In the race itself, he moved into second place and after series leader Keith Farmer ran off track on lap seven, he was comfortably in the lead and he duly took the victory in the shortened race. The 25 points have also elevated him up into third place in the championship table with four rounds of the series still remaining. It was also a good weekend for the other two members of the team, Leon Hunt and Michael Booth, who were contesting the Metzeler National Superstock 1000cc Championship race. Having qualified strongly in 14th, Brighton rider Hunt made a good start in the 15-lap race and found himself up in 12th place at the end of the first lap. A lap later he moved up to 11th where he remained until lap eight when he was relegated back to 12th. However any hopes of reclaiming the position were dashed when a crash brought out the red flag on the eleventh lap thus bringing the race to an early conclusion. Subsequently, Leon had to settle for 12th place. New man to the team Booth also had a good ride and adapted well to the Kawasaki ZX-10R having spent the season thus far on the very different Ducati machine. 23rd on the grid, the Brough rider put in a solid, consistent ride and ended the race in 22nd position.. Freddie Russo: “Naturally, to get my first major win was a memorable moment but my joy was tempered once I leaned the news about Ben Gautrey’s tragic accident. Before that, it had been an absolutely brilliant weekend what with a front row, race win and a new lap record. The bike’s been working really well the last few meetings and since we’ve dialled the suspension in, it’s been 100% and I’ve been focussing on being consistent. I felt really comfortable behind Keith Farmer and was just going to sit there and make my move in the closing stages but my pressure paid off and he ended up making a mistake. From that moment on, I was over three seconds clear and to take my first win is brilliant so a big thanks to everyone for the part they’ve played, but right now, my thoughts are with Ben’s friends and family.” Leon Hunt: “Everything’s gone well this weekend, the only slight problem is that I’m getting a bit frustrated when I don’t do the lap times I know I can and a bit of red mist comes down and I start to ride a bit ragged. I got a fairly decent start in the race and was battling for 10th and feeling fairly confident with everything. The front group weren’t getting away from me too much whilst I also went a few tenths quicker in the race than what I had done in qualifying so that was very pleasing. I was having a good dice with Jonathan Howarth and we were quicker than each other on various parts of the course but the red flag came out and that stopped me from having a go at overtaking. 12th is a solid result and it’s the fourth meeting in a row that I’ve been in the points so it’s good that we’re now running consistently in the top dozen riders.” Michael Booth: “I’ve struggled a bit this weekend to be honest as the Kawasaki is very different to the Ducati and we haven’t made many adjustments to it, I’ve just wanted to stay out of trouble and put in as many laps as possible. The power delivery is quite different but each time I’ve gone out I’ve gone quicker although I got boxed in a bit at the start of the race and that prevented me from moving forward as much as I would have liked. As I’m not used to the bike it took me a while to work out where I could pass people but although I would have liked to have finished higher up, it’s a solid start. I’ve really enjoyed working with the team and they’ve made me feel very welcome so we can all look forward to the next three rounds of the championship.” Alan Greig: “Freddie’s victory was a wonderful acheivement but it has been put into perspective with the tragic news about Ben Gautrey. Freddie wants to dedicate his win today to Ben and everyone at AP Kawasaki would like to extend their deepest sympathy to all of Ben’s family and friends. Freddie had been on it all weekend from free practice to qualifying through to the race and he’s just been both comfortable and confident from start to finish so to get both his and the team’s first win is brilliant. It’s possibly been a bit overdue but we’ll take it now it’s arrived and I’m just delighted for eveyone in the team they’ve put in so much hard work and effort this season that it’s what they’ve all deserved. “It’s been our best weekend so far as both Leon and Michael rode well too. Leon’s had some new people working with him and it’s made him more confident. He’s happy with both the set-up of the bike and the team so it’s now just down to him. He’s got a bit angry with himself as he feels he has more to give but he’s consistently in the top 12 and that’s where we all want to be. As for Michael, he’s gelled with the team from day one although it’s been a big change for him coming from the Ducati to the Kawasaki. He’s on a steep learning curve but he’s improved in each session so we’ll look for more of the same progress at the final three rounds.” Metzeler National Superstock 600cc Championship (8 laps) 1 Freddie Russo (AP Kawasaki) 12m32.064s 2 Keith Farmer (Yamaha) +3.858s 3 James East (Yamaha) +5.344s 4 Josh Wainwright (Suzuki) +5.692s 5 Daniel Hegarty (Kawasaki) +6.014s 6 Connor Behan (Kawasaki) +9.451s 7 Dominic Usher (Yamaha) +11.165s 8 Deane Brown (Yamaha) +11.361s 9 Jonathan Lodge (Triumph) +11.615s 10 Grant Whitaker (Yamaha) +12.026s Championship positions (after 8 rounds) 1 Farmer 142pts 2 Behan 83 3 Russo 83 4 East 73 5 Brown 70 6 Irwin 64 Metzeler National Superstock 1000cc Championship (15 laps) 1 Richard Cooper (BMW) 16m44.928s 2 Adam Jenkinson (Honda) +0.213s 3 Luke Quigley (BMW) +3.635s 4 Jimmy Storrar (BMW) +3.940s 5 Danny Buchan (Kawasaki) +4.121s 6 Tristan Palmer (Honda) +5.879s 7 Howie Mainwaring (Kawasaki) +8.835s 8 Victor Cox (Kawasaki) +8.955s 9 Billy Mellor (BMW) +10.453s 10 David Johnson (BMW) +12.519s 12 Leon Hunt (AP Kawasaki) +18.366s 23 Michael Booth (AP Kawasaki) +1 lap Championship points (after 9 rounds) 1 Cooper 155.5pts 2 Buchan 135 3 Quigley 89 4 Mainwaring 88 5 Jenkinson 86.5 6 Palmer 86 18 Hunt 13 More, from a press release issued by Boulder Motor Sports: Boulder Motor Sports’ Shane Turpin Wins MRA Race of The Rockies at HPR- Boulder, Colorado, August 29th, 2011 – Boulder Motor Sports rider Shane “Tornado” Turpin showcased the teams Ducati 1198R in the premier “Race of the Rockies” Superbike class at High Plains Raceway Raceway during the sixth round of the 2011 MRA season. After reviewing data from round five at HPR, the team rolled the Ducati 1198R out of the trailer with a good setup for Friday’s practice day only having to make a few minor adjustments. During qualifying Turpin was able to put together a few good laps that positioned him on pole for the afternoon’s race. As the lights went out, Colter Dimick jumped out to an early lead on his Yamaha from the second row with Turpin close in pursuit. Coming out of turn 3 onto the long back straight Turpin managed to get a great drive on his Ducati 1198R and grab the lead away from Dimick. By lap two Turpin lead Doug Kahl and Dan Turner on their Suzuki GSXR1000’s. At the halfway point Turpin was able to run a consistent pace and bring home the teams fifth win in the premier “Race of the Rockies” class. Shane Turpin “Today was a great race, we managed to put the Boulder Motor Sports Ducati on pole and then capitalize on that momentum during the race to extend our points lead. With the high temperatures today, the Nemesis traction control system, coupled with the Michelin tires enabled me to run a consistent comfortable pace. My crew and I spent the entire weekend reviewing data, which enabled us to pinpoint sections of the track in which I could gain time. I’d like to thank my team, our sponsors and the entire MRA officials, as well as give a big congratulations to Dan Turner and his crew for getting Dan back on the grid after his qualifying crash.” In addition to the first place finish in Race of the Rockies, the team also placed first in Middleweight Superbike, Open Superbike and second in Heavyweight Superbike. The Boulder Motor Sports team will be back in action on September 18th for Round 7 of the MRA’s 2011 season at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colorado. More, from a press release issued by Hale Racing: LENNY HALE ENTERS 10 RACES: PODIUMS IN 8, WINS 4 WILLOWS, CA. Hale Racing’s Lenny Hale had an outstanding weekend at AFM Round #6 while partaking in an incredible 10 races over the course of the weekend. Hale recently found his bearings aboard his 2008 GSXR 1000 after only racing it for two weekends prior. “I really love this thing. I know it’s a couple years old but being on a one thousand just feels right, the bike does what I want, when I want” Hale said. Hale proved his comfort level with the new machine by setting the weekend’s second fasted lap time of 1:49.1 on a super sport engine. Because this was Hale’s first race in AFM on a 1000 and had no points, he was forced to start at the back of the grid. It was during his forward surge in Formula Pacific that Hale clicked this time off, without a clear track. While Hale continued his progression aboard the 1000, he managed time to extend his points lead, and defend his championships in several 600 classes. “It’s kind of wild racing two machines that are so far apart brake marker wise, but I figured why not give it a shot. This weekend to me was more about doing something I’ve never done. Racing this many races in a weekend and coming away with the results I did, it’s ridiculous, it gets me all jacked up to come back and do it again.” Hale said. “I’d really like to thank the Sponsors that have made this possible: Dunlop, EDR Performance, Dainese, SFO D-Store, Evol Technologies, IS Racing, Pacific Tracktime, and Thermosman Suspension. Thank you all so much, see you at Infineon!” More, from a press release issued by Team Old Glory Speed Shop: Old Glory Wins At Summit Point Team Old Glory Speed Shop takes checkered flag again in the Lightweight class at round 7 of the CCS/ASRA Team Challenge at Summit Point Raceway! The team rode a flawless race and once again put Continental’s Race Attack tires on the top step of the podium. Main rider, Dennie Huff, took the reigns of the team’s Buell XB12R for the first half of the race and grabbed the holeshot for the GTL class. The gearing was a bit off because of a lack of practice time in dry conditions but Dennie still held the lead for his entire stint. He was able to stay out longer than most of the teams due to the Buell XB12R’s excellent fuel mileage. Gian Bojanovich took over riding duties after a flawless pitstop. Gian would fill in for the team’s usual rider, Brandon Cretu, as Brandon was unable to make the round due to prior engagements. Gian improved his lap times on each lap and ran his fastest times toward the end of the race. Gian proved to be a good choice for a back up as he helped bring home the Old Glory Speed Shop Buell XB12R to the number 1 position for the team’s home race at Summit Point Raceway. “We have already secured the Team Challenge Lightweight National Championship but it was nice to continue our winning ways at our home track. We tried the Continental slicks for this race and they has amazing grip from start to finish even on a fairly green track and the EBC brakes were perfect.” said rider, Dennie Huff. The team’s next stop is the final Team Challenge round at Daytona International Speedway in October.
