AFM Round 6 at Thunderhill
Round 6 of the 2011 AFM Championship was held last weekend at Thunderhill Raceway, with a number of Saturday races serving as make-up races for the partial rain-out at the Buttonwillow season opener. One of those races was Formula Pacific, with Chris Siglin, James Randolph, and David Stanton taking the top three positions. Sunday once again saw the fast German machines taking the top spots, with BARF Racing’s Siglin once again taking win on his BMW S1000RR. Randolph finished second on another BMW S1000RR, with Lenny Hale third, the first Formula Pacific podium finish of his career, on an EDR Performance Suzuki GSX-R1000.
“I rode as hard as I could, with the stamina that I had,” said Hale, who finished his weekend with eight podium finishes in nine races. “I would like to thank Eric at EDR for building me a really fast Supersport motor, Dunlop tires for giving me something to work with, Michael at Pacific TrackTime, IS Racing, Ken Casey, my mechanic Gabriel Limon, and the cornerworkers – because they are out there in this hot sun.”
Despite looking strong early in the race, showing Siglin a wheel a few times in turns 2 and 3, Randolph dropped back as the race continued before finishing a strong second.
“Chris rode a great race, we were doing the best we could to hang in there with him,” said Randolph. “It got a little greasy out there, and it was real hot as everyone knows. Chris rode a great race – I can’t say enough about my Dunlop tires, my crew, and my guys for making this all happen. I didn’t see what the gap was behind me, or where Lenny was – all I was doing was concentrating on keeping Chris in sight. A couple of times I had some passing opportunities, but I made a couple of mistakes and that opened the gap up. I can’t thank my sponsors enough, Dan Kyle, Gu, Dunlop, San Jose BMW, and Thermosman Suspension.”
Siglin’s second Formula Pacific win of the weekend was his third straight in the series.
“Alex and Ray were giving me signs, they kept telling me I had someone on me,” said Siglin. “I knew it could be any of a number of guys – James hauls, Lenny, Martin, and the list goes on. This is a dream right here, three in a row, I can’t believe it. Just a testament to hard work, consistency, patience, and not ever giving up, this is definitely the most challenging year in my 10 year career. Big thanks to Alex at Fastline – how about that Fastline power! That thing is just a rocketship down the front straight. CT Racing Pirelli tires, what can I say? You guys saw the results this weekend, nonstop in this heat, and that thing was rockin. Also BARF racing, Tri Valley Moto, Moto Wheels, Helimot, and Motogloss.”
The next round of AFM action takes place September 10th and 11th at Thunderhill Raceway.
