Last year during the 2010 Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix, it was announced that the event would continue in 2011. During this year’s Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix, no such announcement was made regarding the future of MotoGP at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS). Roadracingworld.com caught up to IMS Senior Vice President of Operations Mel Harder, one of the busiest people at the track on any given event weekend, and asked him about the situation. “Our focus right now is on this weekend,” Harder told Roadracingworld.com. “Obviously, we made a big commitment to repaving the racetrack and providing a great surface for the weekend. We’re in negotiations with Dorna. We probably won’t be able to get it done this weekend, but we look to a strong future. “There’s a couple of little details to work out, mainly some schedule issues, some timing issues, and we want to work through that and make sure it all works out before we get ahead of ourselves.” Asked if that meant reviving the concept of moving the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix closer together on the calendar so that the MotoGP circus would only need to make one trip to America each year, Harder said, “There is some discussion about that, yes.”
