DAYTONA BEACH, FL (August 23, 2011) – AMA Pro Racing is pleased to announce that Harley-Davidson Insurance Services Inc. has signed on as Presenting Sponsor of the upcoming AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Championship double-header, which will run as part of the Red Bull Indy GP weekend, August 26-28. The famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway will host two ten-lap Vance & Hines XR1200 presented by Harley-Davidson Insurance races — one on Saturday, the second on Sunday — introducing local and international race fans to the big-bore, handlebar-to-handlebar action of the roaring XR1200 class. The Vance & Hines XR1200 paddock will be open to the attending public all three days, allowing fans to get up-close and personal with the impressive Vance & Hines-modified Harley-Davidson® XR1200™ motorcycles and with the stars of AMA Pro’s newest class. For this very special Indy GP event, AMA Pro’s top XR1200 contenders will be joined by a number of “celebrity” riders making rare appearances in the division, providing extra thrills for spectators and extra challenges for any would-be XR1200 race winner. Vance & Hines XR1200 competition has been fierce all season, with three different riders earning wins in six races. As the series heads to Indianapolis, current points-leader Chris Fillmore’s three wins reign supreme over two-time winner Steve Rapp and young-gun Kyle Wyman, the latter notching his career-first AMA Pro victory at the series’ opening round. Those top regulars will go up against AMA Pro Daytona SportBike star Jason DiSalvo — the 2011 Daytona 200 winner — and 2010 British XR1200 Trophy Champion Jeremy McWilliams, among others. In all, approximately thirty-five XR1200 riders will line up during the two-race weekend in pursuit of a win at the famed Brickyard. “We are delighted to have our friends and business associates at Harley-Davidson Insurance Services join us in support of our pioneering races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” said AMA Pro COO David Atlas. “There couldn’t be a more perfect partnership for the event, as the AMA Pro XR1200 races will mark the first time Harley-Davidson machinery has competed at the Brickyard in over 100 years.” “We’re excited to introduce the Harley-Davidson Insurance program to road racing fans at the Brickyard,” said Steve Piehl, Harley-Davidson Director of Customer Experience. “It’s the perfect venue to connect with Harley-Davidson riders and let them know we have insurance designed exclusively for them.” The races will run at 4:10 pm ET Saturday and 3:30 pm ET Sunday, and fans at home can catch all the action of Indianapolis’ AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 presented by Harley-Davidson Insurance races on SPEED TV, thanks to a one-hour special featuring both races that will air Sunday, August 28, at 6 p.m. ET.
