SZOKE AND KAWASAKI END SEASON ON WINNING NOTE BOWMANVILLE, Ont. Jordan Szoke ended the 2011 Canadian Superbike Championship by Parts Canada in style at Mosport International Raceway on Sunday, riding his Competition Systems Kawasaki Race Team Ninja ZX-10R to an impressive win. The Brantford, Ont. racer mastered difficult wet track conditions to lead 11 of the race’s 14 laps for his 10th career win at Mosport and his sixth in the past eight races at the track. The win combined with a second place finish on Saturday to put Szoke second in the final Canadian Superbike Championship standings and just 10 points shy of first. Szoke had come up just short on Friday in his bid for a third straight Kawasaki S4-R Competition Lubricants Pole Award, qualifying second for the weekend’s final pair of races. “We started from pole at the last two rounds and finished second,” smiled Szoke after the Pirelli SuperPole qualifying session. “Maybe we can switch things around this weekend.” He couldn’t realize how close he almost was to doing just that”¦ Szoke finished second in Saturday’s opening event of the Mosport doubleheader weekend. In that race he led all but three laps and ended up just 0.053 seconds out of first place at the line. “The Kawasaki was amazing today,” Szoke enthused. “We’ve had good speed all year but we’ve struggled sometimes to get consistent lap times. But we were able to do that today. I also seemed to be able to grab the lead on the backstraight fairly easily. “We’ve got a great package for next year. I think we’ve shown just how good it can be.” On Sunday there was no last lap drama for the leader, however, as he finished a comfortable 15.587 seconds ahead of the runner-up. “This is one of the greatest wins of my career and I’ll remember it for a long time,” said the 31-year-old seven-time Canadian Superbike champion. “My Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R was a joy to ride. Sometimes a bike can be a little sketchy in the rain but my bike was very comfortable today. I had a lot of confidence out there.” Szoke finished the season with a win, five second place finishes and one third from the seven Canadian Superbike Championship by Parts Canada events. “I think this weekend at Mosport has been the culmination of a season of development of this brand new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R,” said Mike Crompton of the Competition Systems Kawasaki Race Team. “We spent a lot of the summer playing catch-up to our rivals but I think we’ve proven that we can fight for the win and come out on top with this bike. “Jordan did everything perfectly on Saturday but we just missed it at the finish. On Sunday he put his wet weather experience and skill to use and came away with a well deserved victory.” The Competition Systems Kawasaki Race Team would like to thank the following sponsors for making their 2011 racing effort possible: Canadian Kawasaki Motors Inc., Parts Canada, Akrapovic Exhaust Systems, HotBodies Racing (lightweight replacement bodywork), Orient Express (supplying K-Tech Suspension components and GB racing engine covers), Vortex (supplying sprockets, rear sets, handlebars and other quality chassis parts), Dynojet Research, Kawasaki S4-R Competition Lubricants, NOCO, Performance Friction Brakes, DID Racing Chains, NGK spark plugs, Renegade Racing Fuels.
