Blake, Meringolo and Bemisderfer Follow Up Michelin Pro Series Pole Positions With Wins at New Jersey Motorsport Park Millville, NJ Gone were the sunny skies that blessed yesterday’s qualifying sessions and in their place were clouds and periods of rain for the Michelin Pro Series Finals at New Jersey Motorsports Park. With the forecast of up to 2″ of rain hanging over their heads, for the second time in two events the Michelin Pro racers donned their rains suits and got down to business. In Michelin Pro SportBike, Blake Kelly showed he was the master of Thunderbolt in the wet or dry. Kelly took his Yamaha R6 to the front at the green and never looked back, finishing 1.447 seconds ahead of Dustin Watson. Watson was able to stay with the leader on the wet surface and that enabled both riders to distance themselves from current series point leader Joel Spalding by more than 1:10 seconds. Spalding took a cautious approach to the race and was rewarded with third place and a 40 point lead in Michelin Pro SportBike over Dan Ortega with just two events left in the series. It was another banner day in Michelin Pro ThunderBikes as pole sitter Peter Meringolo faced down a serious challenge from former ASRA Solo Champion Ray Hofman. While Meringolo got to the front quickly, it was Hofman on the Suzuki SV 650 that never let the leading Ducati get too far away. At the checkered flag it was Meringolo by .251 seconds over Hofman and 1:21.301 seconds ahead of third place Douglas Fogg. With the solid second place, Hofman clinches his first Michelin Pro Series Championship and his second ASRA National Championship. Hofman extended his point lead over Joey Thomas to 79 points with just two rounds remaining, assuring him of the 2011 title While SportBike winner Blake Kelly gave it a good shot but Tim Bemisderfer and his Suzuki 1000 were too much to handle as the veteran ASRA racer continued his unbeaten streak in Michelin Pro SuperStock. Bemisderfer has run three races, sat on the pole three times and now has three wins for 2011. Kelly kept in contact with Bemisderfer but had to settle for second on his R6 Yamaha with Eric Helmbach holding on to third place on his BMW 1000. Joel Spalding finished sixth and holds a 12 point lead over Bemisderfer with two rounds left in the 2011 championship.
