British Championship Sidecars arrive at Cadwell This weekend sees the Eastern Airways British F1 Sidecar Championship arrive at Cadwell Park and the three-wheelers will provide some exciting action around the picturesque 2.18-mile circuit. Last time out saw the series complete its half way point so this weekend hosts round 5 and if anyone’s going to reel in the pace setting Tim Reeves and Gregory Cluze, they need to make their move now. Although the Anglo-French pairing only managed one win from the three races held at Snetterton, they still extended their Championship lead, which now stands at a formidable looking 93 points. However, there are still 250 points up for grabs so anything’s still possible. Reeves and Cluze have taken 6 wins from the 10 races, with second places in the four others, and it’s that incredible consistency that has enabled them to forge clear of the second placed duo of Scott Lawrie and James Neave. They’ve finished in the top 4 for the majority of the season and would have been closer to Reeves and Cluze had it not been for mechanical issues at their home round of Knockhill. Arguably the strongest challenge this weekend will come from 2009 World Champions Ben and Tom Birchall. The Mansfield brothers missed two rounds after a crash in the German World Championship round but they returned in style at Snetterton with a double victory, only a mechanical problem denying them a clean sweep, and they’re sure to be on the podium, at least, this weekend. There’s a whole host of crews out to topple this trio though none more so than Retford’s Barry James. James, who has Jamie Winn in the chair undoubtedly has the pace, having won at Brands earlier in the year, but has struggled for consistency so he’ll be wanting to ensure he scores three good results at his local circuit this weekend. Roger Lovelock/Rick Lawrence, Andy Peach/Charlie Richardson, Phil Bell/Ashley Hawes, Ben Holland/Lee Watson and Ben Bygrave/Calum Lawson have all been consistent top six finishers, regularly fighting it out for positions so can again be expected to do the same at Cadwell whilst Sleaford’s Gary Horspole will be hoping his home circuit gives him his best results of the season. The former British F2 Champion has had a steady season so far but should be further up the order as should another local pairing, Carl Parkinson and Darren Tritton, the Retford duo currently lying in 12th place overall. With four rounds remaining, including Cadwell, Reeves leads on 230 points followed by Lawrie (137), Lovelock (119), Bell (105), Peach (104) and James (97). The Birchalls are close behind on 90 points. The action gets underway at 9.00am on both days with Saturday seeing the opening race, held over 10 laps, take place later that afternoon whilst Sunday hosts two races, held over the slightly longer distance of 12 laps.
