TTXGP Added to Bike Fest Weekend at Miller Motorsports Park Electric racing motorcycles add futuristic counterpoint to vintage and contemporary competition TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (August 9, 2011) “” TTXGP, the world’s premier electric motorcycle championship, has been added to the lineup for Miller Motorsports Park’s 2011 Bike Fest, which will take place September 3-4, 2011. The futuristic electric-powered motorcycles will join the historic machinery of the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association’s Bonneville Vintage Grand Prix, making their sixth annual Utah appearance, and Round 6 of the Masters of the Mountains championship, MMP’s local motorcycle racing series organized by the Utah Sport Bike Association (UtahSBA). “The addition of the TTXGP championship to our Bike Fest weekend gives fans a great opportunity to witness the past, present and future of motorcycle racing,” said John Larson, General Manager of the Miller Motorsports Park. “Bike Fest has become a must-do Labor Day gathering for motorcycle enthusiasts throughout the Intermountain West, and we think this year’s event will be the best one ever.” TTXGP was developed in 2009 as an international race series providing a high-profile platform for the development of electric vehicles, enabling the futuristic technology behind them to be tested in an exciting and challenging way. TTXGP aims to drive low-carbon technological innovation forward, to demonstrate that clean-emission transport technologies have matured and can be fun, fast and exciting. TTXGP currently has three international championship series operating in Europe, Australia and the United States. The series’ appearance at MMP will be the season finale of the three-race 2011 U.S. championship, with previous events at Infineon Raceway in May and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in July. The winners from the U.S. series will join the winners from the other series for a World Championship Final in Europe, set for October. “We are pleased to build on the success of Laguna Seca, and to give a thrilling final to the TTXGP 2011 season at such an iconic location,” said Azhar Hussain, CEO of TTXGP. “Our thanks to the all the partners involved in helping us making this happen and we look forward to being hosted by USBA and crowing a TTXGP North American Champion for 2011.” On the opposite end of the motorcycle technology spectrum, the historic racing machines of the AHRMA Bonneville Vintage Grand Prix will compete on the 2.24-mile East Course of the main track. AHRMA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to restoring and competing on classic motorcycles. With about 4,000 members, AHRMA is the largest vintage racing group in North America and one of the biggest in the world. The association has grown steadily over the years, reflecting the increasing interest in classic bikes. Among the highlights will be a Le Mans-start race for Honda CB160s, and the always-amazing two-man sidecars, with the passenger (known as “the monkey”) shifting their body from side to side, sometimes hanging completely off the machine, to maximize traction through the corners. Off-track attractions include a vintage motorcycle show presented by Motorcycle Classics magazine, a raffle for a classic BMW racing bike and a swap meet. While AHRMA is racing on the East Course, the UtahSBA’s Masters of the Mountains series and TTXGP will share time on the 2.18-mile West Course. The seven-race Masters of the Mountains series was created by MMP to encourage competitive road racing at the club and regional levels. In its seventh year, the series has quickly grown into one of America’s premier regional championships, attracting top-level talent from around the nation. Tickets for Bike Fest are priced at $10 on Saturday and Sunday for adults, or $15 for both days. Friday admission is free to everyone and kids 12 and under are free on Saturday and Sunday.
