Army Of Darkness Wins WERA National Endurance Six-Hour Race At Summit Point

ROUND #4 – WERA NATIONAL ENDURANCE SERIES – WERA/MICHELIN NATIONAL CHALLENGE SERIES – WERA/PIRELLI SPORTSMAN SERIES Summit Point Raceway greeted the Series with hot sunshine. Friday saw the 600cc Qualifying Session with young future stars Garrett Gerloff, Jake Lewis and Cassidy Heiser taking the front row for Sunday’s 600cc Superstock feature. Best time in qualifying went to Gerloff with a 1:13.618. Saturday the WERA National Endurance Series took the track for 6 hours after the WERA Minis did their 6 lap race. Young Caleb Smith took the win in the 80cc Class and his father, Nigel Smith took the win in the 50cc Class. At 11:00 the WERA Endurance Teams began their 6 hour race with the first hour going to BEI Racing/Dunlop Development Team with riders Billy Ethridge, Tim Bemisderfer, Brian Stokes and Mark Junge. BEI experienced an engine failure in Hour 2 and TVR 131 took over the honors with riders, Chuck Ivey, Scott Brown, Phil Caudill and Shane Williams. Hour 3 saw another lead change with Army of Darkness taking over the top spot with riders Sam Fleming, Brandon Cretu and James Vanderhaar. A Red Flag in the 4th hour for a bike on track in Turn 5 took 16 minutes to clear and when the race resumed AOD kept their lead where they would stay till the end of the 6 hours. TVR 131 remained in the 2nd position and the third spot on the podium was hotly contested between Mousebox Racing with riders Tim Hunt, Jake Lewis and Alan Nelson; Team Kinetic with riders Robert Turner, Tim Birdsong and Chris Parrish and TOBC Racing with riders Jon Couch, Brian Kcraget and Russell Masecar. TOBC claimed the final position on the podium. Class winners were Army of Darkness in the Heavyweight Class; Mousebox Racing in the Mediumweight Class, TOBC Racing in Lightweight and Faith on Wheels with riders Mike Davis, Ennis Gene Pleasants, Jr., Wrenn Smith and Lance Yeager took the win in the Trophy Class. Sunday the WERA/Michelin National Riders and the WERA/Pirelli Sportsman Riders took over. The Mini race was a repeat of Saturday with the Smith’s taking wins in the two classes again. Open Superstock Expert winner was Tim Bemisderfer and he repeated that win in the WERA Superbike Class as well. Open Superstock Novice went to Christopher Cordle who repeated wins in Formula 1 Novice; Formula 2 Novice and Lightweight Twins Superbike Novice. Senior Superbike HW Expert winner was Thomas Cutter Novice winner was Kevin Kline the Mediumweight Expert win. V6 Hw winner was Michael Kelly; V7 MW and V7 HW went to Lance Yeager and Kim Grews took the win in the Women’s Superstock Class. The 600cc Supersock Experts took the green flag and immediately the battle between Garrett Gerloff and Jake Lewis was on. Lewis came out on top and set the best lap time at a 1:13.567. Gerloff and Zach Herrin rounded out the podium. Robert Mitchell took the 600cc Superstock Novice win, Formula 2 Expert winner Brian Kcraget also took the win in the Lightweight Twins Superbike Expert class. Jake Lewis came back and won the 750 Superstock Expert win and the 600cc Superbike win as well as the 750cc Superbike win. Ryan Lash was the big Novice winner with 1st place in the 750cc Superstock Class; the 600cc Superbike Class and the 750cc Superbike Class. Luie Zendejas took the win in the Expert Formula 1 Class. Ian Tetrick won the 125cc GP and Michael Parr took wins in the Clubman Expert and D Superstock Classes. John Greer won the Heavyweight Superstock Expert Class with Eric Ettare taking the Novice win. Scott McKee won the D Superbike Expert Class; Jessica Butel took the E Superstock win; Russell Masecar took the Lightweight Twins Superstock Expert and Darrell Emerson took the Novice win. The final race of the day went to Kevin Kline when he took the win in the Novice A Superbike Class. Round #5 of the Series moves to Virginia International Raceway this week with Thursday practice, Vintage Racing and the Kevin Schwantz Lites School on August 4th with the WERA National Endurance taking the track on the 5th; the Pirelli/WERA Sportsman Series on the 6th and the Michelin/WERA National Series on the 7th. Tickets will be available at the gate and camping is available. Come out and see the who will come out on top in Round #5.
