TIE, Roccoli/Marino, 51 More, from a press release issued by Yamaha ParkinGO Team: Another top job of Chaz Davies closing him more to the Supersport wotld title 2011. The British rider has stepped up to the top of the rostrum for the 4th time this year after a big battled race in front of his fans that have been supporting him throughout the race. Chaz’s weekend has been a “crescendo”. Loyal to his style, has used the first day of practices to know the right path to follow for the set up of the bike, but as well to improve his confidence with the track, where he only did his debut last year. On the final session of practices of Saturday he managed to get second row, position where he did a brilliant start climbing up to fourth place after the green light. After he battled with the group formed by Marino, Foret, Salom, Harms and Rea. Chaz managed very well the fight till five laps to the end where he tried to escape, being Salom the only one to follow his pace and giving up after a couple of passes. Now Davies is first in the world Championship with 42 points of advantage on his ex teammate David Salom with only four races to finish the championship. Difficulties though for Luca Scassa, finishing the race in thirteenth position. The Italian rider ends his chances then for the world title, but his help could be very important to hold back the other championship contenders that for sure will try to take away the win to Davies at Nurburgring. Chaz Davies Yamaha YZF R6 #7 – “It has been a fantastic day, is a great feeling to win in front of my fans, friends and family. I have been able to have a good start but my adversaries were very aggressive therefore I decided to stay without forcing and risking too much and save the tire for the end. Five laps to the end I tried to escape and Salom has stayed with me at the beginning but after I have been able to get a little advantage and arrive alone to the chequered flag. After the holidays I have the four most difficult races of the season.” Luca Scassa Yamaha YZF R6 #9 – “I thought I solved the problems on the practice sessions, but after a good start I have realized that I couldn’t reach the top group. I have tried to get away of the group I was but at the end of the race I had no tire left and lost some positions.” Giuliano Rovelli team owner – “Chaz has been fantastic as always! Has done an aggressive and rational race and deserves the leadership of the championship. In the qualifying seems always in difficulty but his job setting up the bike is finished by race time as shown with the fantastic victory. I feel bad for Luca that ends his chances for the title but still has the possibility of getting the second place in the championship and we’ll help him to achieve his goal.” More, from a press release issued by Ten Kate Honda: Fabien Foret took his fifth podium finish in six races at Silverstone today in round eight of the World Supersport championship at Silverstone in the UK. The race was won by series leader Chaz Davies, with Spain’s David Salom finishing just ahead of Foret in second. Foret’s Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team-mate, Florian Marino, was ninth. Foret started from the second row of the grid but the French ace dropped some places at the start and had to fight his way to the front of the field. He led for two laps before a false neutral on Silverstone’s back straight saw him drop to third. Marino, conversely, began the 16-lap race around the 5.902km circuit from the front row and led for the opening two laps. However, tyre problems forced the 18-year-old from Cannes in France to drop back through the field in the closing laps. Fabien Foret third Well it wasn’t the result we wanted, but the weekend has been quite difficult, so I’ll take it. I feel a bit sorry for the team though, because I didn’t really do the best race here and had the wrong tyre. I wasn’t 100% happy with the setting either, but I made some mistakes too, so it wasn’t great. We didn’t really find what we wanted on the bike and I’m sorry I couldn’t get a better result for the team. Florian Marino ninth I’m really disappointed with the result here. I got a good start and when Chaz passed me I could go with him. Even when I dropped to fourth, I was able to match his times but after nine or ten laps the rear tyre just went and I had no grip. After this I had to fight the bike so much just to get to the end. After a good qualifying I was confident for a nice result, but there are some positive things from the weekend so I can be confident going to Nurburgring. Ronald ten Kate team-manager It was quite a hectic race today that saw both our riders leading. That was good for Florian in particular, because he’s had some problems finding a setting for the machine, and he showed his true speed on the bike. We’ve had some problems trying to sort the bike for Fabien this weekend, but we never really got it perfect. We’re happy with yet another podium although a win just before the summer holidays would have been nice. We’re in a good connection with the leading group now and all we can do now is fight for race wins and try to make a big step towards the lead at Nurburgring. More, from a press release issued by Bogdanka PTR Honda: EllisonSilverstoneSundayBOGDANKA PTR HONDA’s James Ellison finished the eighth round of the World Supersport Championship at Silverstone in 10th place after starting from 16th on the grid. Silverstone rookie Pawel Szkopek on the other Bogdanka PTR Honda crashed uninjured while battling for a point scoring position on lap 10 out of 16. Series leader, Chaz Davies, won the race with round nine taking place at the Nurburgring in Germany on the first weekend of September. James Ellison: “I knew it would be difficult to come from 16th on the grid. I tried to make a move on the inside of the first corner but two or three riders had the same idea. We were close to crashing and lost a lot of places but from then on it was a case of picking others up. We were catching the guys in sixth and seventh so potentially it could’ve been a very good race but the problem was we missed too much track time yesterday.” Pawel Szkopek: “I was fighting hard with Iannuzzo. He was slower than me in some corners but was defending his position well and it forced me to lose the front on the brakes. It’s a pity as I could’ve scored another point today but we still learned a lot this weekend and found some interesting setup solutions. We have a bit of a break now and I’m looking to work hard to be in perfect shape for the last four races of the season.” Simon Buckmaster: “It is a top 10 for James and we will take the positives out of that. We all need to work harder to achieve the results that both James and the team are capable of. “Pawel started well and was fighting for points when he made a mistake under braking. He is showing good potential but we must work with him to finish the races consistently.” More, from a press release issued by Parkalgar Honda: PARKALGAR HONDA’S Miguel Praia recovered from 17th place at the end of the opening lap to take a competitive eighth place at the eighth round of the World Supersport Championship at Silverstone in the UK. Sam Lowes fell out of the race on the third lap after running into the rider in front of him mid-corner. He remounted but was unable to finish. The next round of the Championship is at the Nurburgring in Germany on the 4th September. Miguel: “I was blocked in at the start and lost many places. I then came back and started passing a lot of people. I had a good fight with James Ellison and as my tyre went away I adjusted my traction control settings and was able to break away from him and finished eighth. The important thing is my race pace is very good – I finished just 14-seconds down on the winner and only three seconds from fifth. I lost at least five seconds on the first lap or two but then ran a quick pace for the rest of the race. My problem is I must qualify better and learn how to go a second a lap faster with a new tyre; we have the top five pace if we can qualify and get away at the front. A big thank you to Parkalgar Honda for working so hard and giving me a good bike to race.” Sam: “I just want to say sorry to everyone who came here to cheer me on and to my Parkalgar Honda team. I made a mistake and ran into a rider in front of me early on in the race and lost the front, crashing out. We are working hard and we will get the job right soon.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “Miguel was boxed in at the start but he worked his way through the field. He had a great race and passed Marino again on the last corner – for the second time this season – to take a superb eighth. That’s a good encouraging result. “Sam got a bit excited at the start of the race and made a mistake that cost him the chance to win. He’s young but he has the talent and the speed; we will work with him to put in place the last piece of the jigsaw that will see him winning races – his day is coming soon.” More, from a press release issued by Kawasaki: Salom Second And Parkes Sixth WSS, Silverstone, Great Britain, 31 July 2011 David Salom started from pole and was only a second from winning a 16-lap race at Silverstone, having battled with the leading riders almost until the end of the race. Broc Parkes was sixth. The Kawasaki Motocard.com Ninja ZX-6R riders found the competition tough in the early laps, with some top names like Robin Harms, Sam Lowes and Gino Rea crashing or running off the circuit. The race settled into a pattern of Parkes vying for a top six finish which he achieved, and Salom looking capable of the win once he and Fabien Foret had caught up to the early leaders. Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki team rider Massimo Roccoli had a great run through to fifth place, and in doing so went tenth in the championship. His team-mate Vittorio Iannuzzo scored a point for 15th. In the European Superstock 600 race American rider Joshua Day won a thrilling contest that saw five riders inside the same second across the line. The Revolution Racedays Kawasaki rider became the sixth different competitor to win in six races so far. He is now third in the rankings, only 18 points from the leader Romain Lanusse. David Salom: “A good result for us. Right at the very end I had the same tyre performance as Chaz, both very good. I tried hard in the braking zones but Chaz is very strong in braking and it was not possible to make a pass. I passed at one stage but he got me back again. I think it was possible to win, but only if I had been right at the front straight away. My race pace was good and I’m happy for the team because we worked very hard. Second position in the championship now, which is very good for me this year, but Chaz is quite far ahead. I still think it is possible to fight for the championship. It will be difficult, but we have four races left and I think I am the only rider to have finished in the points in every race so far.” Broc Parkes: “We struggled in the race big time and didn’t have the pace all weekend. It was damage limitation really, a matter of seeing what I could do in the race. For some reason our set-up is not working the way we want it. I could do the same consistent lap time but to have the pace to get to the front I could not pass people. Sixth was not so good for our championship push but we came out of here with some points and we have to improve and go into the last part of the season and see what we can do.”
