Yoshimura Suzuki Racing Team leads Suzuka qualifications ahead of Honda FCC TSR and Musashi RT Harc Pro Not only they have signed the best lap times from the free practices, but the Yoshimura Suzuki Racing Team managed to hold back the Hondas once again during the first qualifying session of the Suzuka 8 Hours. Yukio Kagayama put the hammer down from the start of the session by clocking a 2’07.884. He is the only rider below the 2’08 bar. With a lap in 2’08.260, the Honda FCC TSR seems to be the only one able to follow the Suzuki’s rhythm. Kosuke Akiyoshi put the Honda in second place, ahead of the Musashi RT Harc Pro with Makoto Tamada in 2’08.962. Thanks to their Japanese rider Katsuyuki Nakasuga, the Monster Yamaha YART took the fourth place of this first qualifying session with a 2’09.045 lap. The BMW Motorrad France 99 also signed a great performance with a seventh place with Erwan Nigon (2’10.140), since the team managed by Steven Caeser arrived in Suzuka with a very modified machine (new swingarm and fuel tank) and was in need of some new setups. The tenth place goes to the Yamaha Racing France GMT 94 Ipone, with Matthieu Lagrive in 2’11.197. Monster Yamaha YART, BMW Motorrad France 99 Ipone and Yamaha Racing France GMT 94 Ipone are the only permanent teams who can claim by now to the “Top 10 Trial”. Twelfth with their Japanese rider, Isami Higashimura, Bolliger Team Switzerland leads the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team, 14th, and the Honda TT Legends, 21st. Suzuka 8 Hours is the only round of the Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship with some special regulations: the best individual lap time determinates the starting grid, and not the average time from the two or three riders of each time, like on the other rounds. Suzuka also has its “Top 10 Trial”, a Superpolelike session, where the two best riders of the best ten teams after the qualifications go back on track to reallocate the spots for the final starting grid. The Top 10 Trial is scheduled Saturday afternoon at Suzuka (GMT + 9) and the race will start Sunday at 10:30 am.
