The Yoshimura Suzuki Racing Team with Yukio Kagayama, Josh Waters and Nobuatsu Aoki clocked the fastest lap in 2’10.336 just before the end of the session ahead of the FCC TSR Honda of Kosuke Akiyoshi, Shinichi Ito and Ryuichi Kiyonari in 2’10.352 and the Honda who won the 2010 Suzuka 8 Hours, the Musashi Harc Pro of Takumi Takahashi, Makoto Tamada and Tadayuki Okada in 2’10.789. It’s far from the 2’08 of last season but a very bad storm disrupted the afternoon programme at Suzuka. The first free practice session was cancelled. The track remained tricky in the second session and the weather remains very uncertain for the whole weekend. The Honda Suzuka Racing Team and Honda Teluru HoneyBee Racing complete the top 5 of this free practice. Behind these five motorbikes with Bridgestone tyres, the first bike with Dunlop is the Kawasaki Racing Team Woodstock Beet. The Yamaha Monster YART (Michelin) is the best of six permanent teams in Suzuka with a lap in 2’12.917. Gwen Giabbani and Igor Jerman have a very strong reinforcement with Katsuyuki Nakasuga, Superbike champion in Japan in 2008 and 2009 and currently third in the 2011 championship. The Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (Daisaku Sakai, Vincent Philippe and Freddy Foray) the Yamaha France GMT 94 Ipone Racing (David Checa, Kenny Foray and Matthieu Lagrive) and the BMW Motorrad France 99 (Sébastien Gimbert, Erwan Nigon and Damian Cudlin) take 13th to 15th positions. Usually the official BMW is more efficient in practices but in Japan the BMW arrived with a new petrol tank, a new swing arm and weighing 8 kg less, in other words “a new machine,” explains Sébastien Gimbert and for which they have to make adjustments. Kawasaki Bolliger Team Switzerland is in 31st position. There, the drivers have to “learn” the ZX-10R of the Japanese team Asia RS Itoh, Bolliger Team Switzerland partner in this event. Honda TT Legends is 32nd. John McGuinness, Cameron Donald and Keith Amor are discovering the 5821m of Suzuka track. The qualifying starts tomorrow at 11 a.m. (GMT + 9) To follow the practices and the race live, log on to www.fim-live.com and www.suzukacircuit.jp/result_s/2011/8tai/index.html
