Farquhar retains Cock o’ the North Trophy at Oliver’s Mount Ryan Farquhar retained his Cock o’ the North trophy at Oliver’s Mount in superb fashion on Sunday when he pulled off a thrilling last lap manoeuvre over long time race leader Michael Pearson. The KMR Kawasaki shadowed his rival for the majority of the race before getting the better of his fellow countryman at Mountside Hairpin to keep the trophy for another year. With two more wins over the course of the two days, it was another successful weekend of road racing for Farquhar. Conditions on Saturday at Scarborough were dry but cool and overcast with Ryan’s first outing coming in the 600cc race although this was soon halted and pushed back to later in the day. So, the first Superbike race was his first proper race and he immediately took the holeshot on the ZX-10R Superstock machine. He retained the lead until just after half race distance when Pearson overhauled him and although there was little between the duo, Ryan was unable to find a way by and he had to settle for second spot. Next up was the re-scheduled 600cc race and another good start saw Ryan take the lead but it was short-lived as problems with the Supersport bike saw him retire just a few corners later. However, he ended the day positively with a dominant win in the Supertwins race. Sunday saw similar conditions around the woodland venue and with no time to repair the 600cc bike, Ryan was first out in the Superbike race where it was Pearson who this time led at the end of the first lap. Ryan sat behind him until he hit the front at the end of lap 5 on the entry to Farm Bends but Pearson wasn’t to be denied and retook the lead with a lap to go, holding on for the win by just 0.215s although Ryan did claim the fastest lap of the weekend at 82.956mph. The feature Cock o’ the North race was next and although it was due to be held over 10 laps an incident saw it red flagged and ultimately re-started over 8 laps. It was again Pearson who held sway as the riders wound their way round the narrow, tree-lined circuit. The BMW rider looked like he had the race win sewn up but Ryan was always within striking distance and a superb late-braking attempt at Mountside Hairpin on the 8th and final lap saw him take the victory. He then rounded off his weekend with a hard fought victory over Ivan Lintin in the second Supertwins race. Speaking afterwards, a delighted Ryan said: “It’s been a bit of an up and down weekend but I’m over the moon to have rounded it off with a win in the Cock o’ the North race and take the trophy for a second successive year. I’d had to give second best to Michael in the previous two Superbike race and I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to get the better of him as he was riding really well whilst I was constantly making changes to the bike to try and improve the handling. The bike doesn’t seem to work the same at any circuit and just when you think you’ve found a good set-up, you have to start again but I’m starting to understand it a lot more now so we’re making progress.” “I was making changes all weekend and the bike was at its best for the main race so I sat behind Michael and waited to make my move although he was riding very defensively so it was tough going but I squeezed through on the final lap to take a good win. Ivan Lintin pushed me hard in the two Supertwins race but I managed to open up a gap towards the end of each race to take two good wins there and the only disappointment was the 600. We had a few problems in practice when it refused to fire up and although I got a good start in the race it felt like it was going to seize so I pulled the clutch in and coasted to a halt. I’ve got some work to do now to sort it out as we don’t know if it’s an electrical or mechanical problem but when I get home I’ll strip the bike down and make sure I’m all ready for the next race.” Ryan now heads back home with his next race coming at the Armoy Road Races, Saturday July 30th. More, from a press release issued by CRP Racing: A fifth place that worth a Victory The first joint race of FIM e-Power and TTXGP with the unique Italian team CRP Racing is ended Alessandro Brannetti and its eCRP1.4 finish fifth, but with the fourth fastest lap (1.40.193), and passes his first competitor, Himmelmann (Muench Racing), with whom he is fighting for the head of both FIM e-Power and TTXGP Eu Championships. An incredible result for a motorbike with 130hp less than first four motorbikes, and even less than Muench Racing Team. This fifth place that worth a victory does justice to Alessandro and CRP Racing team professionalism, in a championship and a market just born and continuously improving, waiting for the day when more participants will allow more classes suiting different motorbikes power, as it is for “petrol sisters”. A great performance for the second CRP racer too, Shelina Moreda, Californian, who finishes 8th with lap times faster than her own qualifying ones. In 2 days only Shelina got faster and faster even 8seconds less. This demonstrating how fast she is improving learning to ride her eCRP1.4. An amazing weekend thanks to her fantastic charisma and great professionalism! We do all hope to see her on a eCRP1.4 as soon as possible! The eCRP went to America, at Laguna Seca for the first joint race of the electric championships After the great celebration of the parade of Friday July 22 with the Californian rider Shelina Moreda, who was on track with the eCRP together with the other contenders, the Italian team CRP Racing is pleased and satisfied with the good experience they made in America. Brannetti got the opportunity to meet his mates and friends of the MotoGP who supported him during the race. With the round at Mazda Raceway, the technical chief of CRP Racing was able to collect interesting data and other information that come out under race conditions. It’s no more a secret that the Italian manufacturer is working on track to collect significant know-how to transfert to the development of the electric street motorbike that will be presented in November at EICMA in Milan. Off the spotlight on the great racing event at Laguna Seca, the team will return to Italy, to use the information gathered this weekend. More, from a press release issued by Josh Galster’s publicist: Tough weekend at Laguna Seca for Josh Galster The AMA Pro Road Racing series was in Monterey, CA at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this past weekend along side MotoGP. Josh Galster was able to come away from a tough weekend with a 16th-place finish and points enough to put him 16th in the Daytona Sportbike Championship with one round left. With FIM MotoGP racing at Laguna Seca the same weekend, the AMA had to adhere to a strict schedule that was put in place by the FIM authorities. With an hour-long practice session Friday afternoon, it was important to get some good information and practice on the bike before early morning qualifying Saturday morning. Galster was looking forward to the Friday morning practice because of the new suspension that Barry Wressell from KFG Racing had set up for Galster, along with new parts from Garry Gallagher at EBC. In the Friday afternoon session Galster went out and was getting a feel for the suspension and brakes and was starting to get up to speed when he tucked the front in Turn 4 and crashed. With the bike pretty banged up there was no way Josh was going to be able to get the bike back together for the remainder of the practice, so the valuable track time was lost. After a lot of hard work from Barry, Sean Bratt, and Josh, the bike was back together and ready to ride. The early 8am qualifying session on Saturday morning did not have ideal conditions, with cooler temps and fog/mist, but it was needed time to sort out the bike. Galster was getting faster and faster in the session but still was not getting the bike to handle the way he wanted. He just couldn’t get the feel out of the front that he was looking for and finished the session with a 1:34.079. In final qualifying later that day, Galster was again able to better his time and with each adjustment his times would improve, but would only be able to qualify 22nd on the grid with a 1:32.363. With another early morning session Sunday, Galster went out to see if he could improve on his times after more adjustments were made but was not able to drop any more time. Sunday afternoon came around for the start of the race and Galster knew that if he wanted to be up front he would need to get a great start. With a 3-by-3 instead of a 4-by-4 across starting grid, Galster was on the 8th row and had quite the ground to cover. With a decent start, Galster was going around the outside in Turn 2 only see a big crash in front of him which eventually caused a red flag and the race to be stopped. Because of the time restraint the AMA had, the race had to be shortened to 15 laps from 23. Galster got into a rhythm after a few laps on the restart, but couldn’t hang on to the group in front of him. He had a lonely race but was able to drop his time each and every lap. Toward the end of the shortened race, with 5 laps remaining, there was another red flag that stopped the race due to a bike that had crashed and was in the middle of the track at the bottom of the infamous Cork Screw, and because of the limit time slot the race had to be declared finished. With the race over, Galster finished 16th and had his best lap times at the end of the race with a 1.31.516 and dropping. Just over a month away from the final AMA round, Galster will be back and ready to compete in the front again at New Jersey Motorsports Park Sept. 2-4th. Big thanks this weekend to Barry at KFG Racing, Sean Bratt, Garry at EBC, friends and family, and the help from the other Colorado racers that came out. More, from a press release issued by ADR/Fly Racing: A Successful Laguna Seca campaign for Team ADR Fly Racing Last weekend saw the MotoGP at Laguna Seca combined with the AMA Pro National Guard Superbike and Daytona Sportbike Series, in which Team ADR Fly Racing embarked upon both the Superbike and Sportbike series, importing Scottish Moto 2 World Championship regular Kev Coghlan piloting the ADR #25 Yamaha R6 to a stunning 7th place and AMA Superbike rookie #33 Jordy Burgess finishing in the Top 15. A luckless Johnny Rock Page #269 missed out on qualifying for the main event by 0.30 seconds. With Team owner and rider Aussie Dave Anthony absent from the superbike at this round due to a recent Back operation, the decision was made to build the team’s 2009 model R6 and field Scotsman Kev Coghlan who was fresh from Duties in the BSB the prior weekend and challenge the top runners at what was his maiden visit to Laguna Seca. Adjusting to the bike quickly, the experienced Barcelona based racer qualified in a close 11th position whilst finding his feet and learning the track. In a stop-start race, Kev quickly made a solid start, coupled with some quick lap times and impressive passing maneuvers, found himself in 6th place before a red flag incident on the same lap saw the race finish early and his place be relegated back to 7th. In the Superbike Race, Burgess qualified with a low 1:28 lap time to put him in 18th for his first race at Laguna Seca amongst the experienced field. The bike remained unchanged coming into the race as Burgess was sure he could push through and improve in the race. Once the race got underway, Burgess found himself in a battle for 14th with BMW rider and fellow Australian Chris Trounson. the pair fought back and forth with Jordy leading into the final lap when a blue flag incident saw Trounson gap Burgess, leaving the ADR rider having to settle for 15th place.
