Returning a call via cell phone, Jake Holden just told us that he has been released from the hospital and is en route back to his home in Washington state. Holden said that suffered two broken ribs, “a slightly lacerated spleen” and fluid in one lung when he fell and was run over on the first lap of the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca yesterday. Holden crashed after contact with Dane Westby, who was trying to pass Holden on the inside of Turn Two, before the apex. After he fell, Holden was run over by Paul Allison, who had nowhere to go. Allison also crashed. “It was just close racing,” said Holden. “That class is always close racing. It (the pass attempt) was a little tight for me, but it is what it is.”
