TIE, Parkes/Foret, 85 4. Salom, 84 5. Scassa, 79 6. Lowes, 73 7. Harms, 59 8. Rea, 57 9. Marino, 44 10. Tamburini, 43 More, from a press release issued by Yamaha ParkinGO Team: Yamaha ParkinGO Team is with Chaz Davies again back on the rostrum at Brno round. After all difficulties found during qualifying, the British rider has done a brilliant race , gaining positions lap by lap and finishing third after all. A result that could have been better if the red flag wasn’t shown two laps to the end, due to Robbin Harms engine failure. At that point Davies was behind Rea and Foret and was ready to make a move to try to get the victory With this result and the crash of Broc Parkes, Davies steps away in the World Championship standings that now leads with 121, 36 points ahead of Broc Parkes and Fabien Foret, followed by Salom and Luca Scassa that finished today seventh on the race The Italian rider, scores some points again for his classification that allows him to reduce the advantage on the World Championship. Chaz Davies – Yamaha YZF R6 #7 – “We have been able again to do a really good job after all the difficulties during this weekend. We have been working hard, getting better session after session. When I saw Parkes crashing one part of me was saying not to risk but the other side was saying to try to win it and that is what I chanced. Thanks to this result my advantage is now bigger but up to after Silverstone I don’t really want to do any numbers.” Luca Scassa – Yamaha YZF R6 #9 – “It has been a hard race, we have been able to improve but not to get into the fight for the rostrum, even though if we didn’t have the red flag I could have tried to gain still a coupe of positions. After all the problems we had during the weekend it was important to get points for the classification. Next race I will have to try to win it to be able to approach my teammate in the World Championship standings.” More, from a press release issued by Parkalgar Honda: PARKALGAR HONDA’S Sam Lowes battled his way to sixth place at the seventh round of the World Supersport Championship at Brno in the Czech Republic after challenging in the top three but then dropping back as he lost grip from his tyres much earlier than expected. Miguel Praia was enjoying a brilliant race less than 10-seconds from the lead in ninth place and challenging for seventh when he crashed out unhurt on lap 15 – just one-lap before another crash caused a red flag and cut the race short. The next round of the Championship is at Silverstone in the UK on 31st July with Sam more determined than ever to win in front of his home crowd and Miguel relishing the chance to race at the track where he has scored his best ever result of sixth. Sam: “I got an OK start and felt good on my Parkalgar Honda. I was working my way through the field and was closing the gap to the leader thinking I could challenge when I lost grip in my tyres. It was sudden and unexpected and there was nothing I could do but concentrate and ride as hard as I could with the grip I had. Sixth is not what I wanted but it’s points and the best I could do given the circumstances.” Miguel: “My start was not good but I found my rhythm straight away and was confident and happy with my Parkalgar Honda. I managed to catch Harms and Scassa and spent the race behind them. I pushed a little more, to get as close as possible for the last two laps to try and overtake but I pushed too hard. Despite this I am happy and thank you for the work of the Parkalgar Honda team – this has been smallest gap to the leaders I have ever had in the World Championship and the next race is at Silverstone where I got my best result ever, so I am already looking forward to it.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “Sam didn’t get a great start but was looking good in third when the grip went away and there was nothing he could do. He did the right thing to bring the bike home and get points and is now looking forward to his home race at Silverstone next time out. “I feel really sorry for Miguel who has been riding better than ever this weekend. He lost the front and crashed but he is carrying good momentum to the next race where he scored his best result ever and we want a repeat performance this year.” More, from a press release issued by Bogdanka PTR Honda: BOGDANKA PTR HONDA’s Pawel Szkopek showed top 10 potential going ninth quickest in the morning warm-up before being taken out of his home World Supersport race at Brno in the Czech Republic on the opening lap. James Ellison finished the seventh race of the season and Bogdanka’s home event in eighth with Marcin Walkowiak 22nd in the Superstock 1000 class. The World Supersport race was won by UK’s Gino Rea with next round taking place at Silverstone in three weeks time. Pawel Szkopek: “I got taken out by another rider on the first lap. I tried to continue but the bike was too damaged and I had to pull in. It was very unlucky but the whole weekend was really good. I was very fast and inside the top 10 this morning and it was a big confidence boost as our goal is to fight for the top 10 in the second half of the season. I’d like to thank the Polish fans for all the support. It’s a pity I couldn’t reward them with a strong result but we’ll try hard in the next round at Silverstone.” James Ellison: “Considering how the weekend started it’s not a bad result but I’m bit disappointed in myself. The Bogdanka PTR Honda is capable of more than this. We’ve tried many different settings and made a big change for the race which was a slight improvement but still not enough. I was faster than Florian Marino but it was difficult to pass him because I lacked a bit of feeling from the front early on. Once I got past the lap times were good but I had already lost touch with the guys in front.” Marcin Walkowiak: “I’m happy to finish and get more miles under my belt but disappointed with the result. We started the race with a new set up which was a bit of a gamble and the opening laps were quite good but I was struggling for grip later on, both going into and out of the corners. Thanks to the team for their hard work and to all the Polish fans who came to Brno this weekend to support us.” Simon Buckmaster: “Pawel was taken out at turn three and was unlucky to be involved in a first lap incident; his pace showed he could have been deep inside the points scoring positions. He is riding well and needs to maintain that form for the next round and the results will come. “James did not get a great start and he struggled all weekend. If we had a fully focused James Ellison then he could be challenging much higher up, but he needs to adjust his riding style to suit the Supersport bike and get the best from it. He should take the positives of a good top 10 finish and now he needs to dig deep to step up and race in the top five for the rest of the season.” More, from a press release issued by Hannspree Ten Kate Honda: Fabien Foret was second in today’s shortened seventh round World Supersport race at Brno in the Czech Republic, finishing behind fellow Honda rider Gino Rea. His Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team-mate, Florian Marino, was ninth. Foret started the race from pole position but the French rider noticed a problem with his quick-shifter as he made his way to the stating grid. His crew tried unsuccessfully to fix the problem so Foret was forced to race without the device. Foret went into an early lead but slotted back into second place behind Rea, where he stayed comfortably until two laps from the end when a red flag due to oil on the track brought an early end to the race. The result moves the 2002 champion into joint second place in the series, alongside Broc Parkes and behind Chaz Davies, who finished third today. Fabien Foret 2nd First, I want to thank the team for all their work thi s weekend. We were unlucky with the quick-shifter and they tried to change it on the grid, but it was more a problem inside with the electronics, so it didn’t work. I was really worried how I would be able to race. I was losing a lot of time, especially going uphill and having to downshift manually the whole time. I didn’t resist when Gino went past but it looked like he was really on the limit. I was struggling a bit but stayed with him it was easy in some corners and more difficult in others. I was planning to attack him in the last two laps but then the red flag came out. It was disappointing, of course, but I’m happy in one way because we’re second in the championship and it turned out to be not a bad weekend. The confidence is back, the team’s way of working is now really good after Aragon, and I’m looking forward to going to Silverstone to try again. Florian Marino 9th I didn’t have such a good start and I lost quite a lot of time in the first few laps with lots of passing going on. When I settled down I still had to try a few things because of all the time we lost in practice. There were still some areas where I think we could have improved the bike. My physical condition was good, though, and I was able to fight all the way through. Even when Ellison passed me and opened a small gap, I was able to stay with him. The feeling changed with the bike over the last three of four laps and the front nearly went a few times. I tried to pass Ellison again but ended up making a few mistakes. The positive thing is that I was only 16 seconds behind the first rider, which is my best this season. It could have been a lot worse with all the problems we had in practice and warm-up. The crew worked really hard so thanks for their belief in me. I’ve learned a lot here and I’m feeling positive, which is good for the next races. Ronald ten Kate team-manager The broken quick-shifter was a big problem for Fabien. Although we replaced it, it was not a mechanical problem maybe deeper in the electronics or in the wiring loom and that was his biggest enemy. We’re sorry for that because we’re sure he had the speed in him to win today. The red flag didn’t help either because he was just lining up for a last lap attack. Anyway, it was another good podium result for Fabien and the bike has improved a lot. We’re looking forward to a two-day test at Assen next week where we’ll continue working on the direction we found here. Florian needs the two-day test as well, because we weren’t able to make a similar step with him as we did with Fabien this weekend. More, from a press release issued by Kawasaki: Salom Fourth In Brno Race And The Championship Standings David Salom missed a podium place by one position at Brno as he took more valuable championship points away, getting to within one point of second place, which his team-mate Broc Parkes occupies. Salom took his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R to a front row starting place alongside Parkes, and made a good start, but after he experienced some issues with tyre life in the middle of the race he had no chance to catch up to the leading duo of Gino Rea and Fabien Foret, and he was finally passed by championship leader Chaz Davies. The points for fourth at Brno still keep David in a strong position to challenge in the remaining five rounds and his improvement in qualifying is helping his cause on raceday more consistently as each race weekend goes by. Despite falling for the second time in succession while in the leading mix for the podium places, Broc remains second in the championship. With Davies unable to add to his race win total in the Czech Republic, Parkes still has five rounds to make up the points deficit of 36 to the British rider. The race at Brno was stopped three laps early by a red flag, after a technical problem with another machine and a few crashes including a small trackside fire brought proceedings to a halt. Lorenzini By Leoni Kawasaki riders Massimo Roccoli and Vittorio Iannuzzo had very different experiences at Brno on raceday. Roccoli fell while in a good position and remounted to finish 15th (scoring a point) but Iannuzzo was in better shape and took a top ten finish for the third time this year. The next round will take place at Silverstone, in the United Kingdom, between 29 and 31 July. David Salom: “A good race and maybe the best start this year except for Phillip Island. After ten laps the rear started to give me no grip and it was not possible to go fast. All the same, I think it was a good race for me and I’m in fourth position in the championship, only one point from second place. I think we did a good job. The temperature was high today but we went for the soft tyre and some others went for a medium.” Broc Parkes: “I lost the front end again. I have been struggling with feel from the front in the past two races and I do not know exactly why. I had no warnings in the corners and just fell by losing the front. I am very disappointed this time, more than at the last race. We had the pace last time but I just did not have the race pace at this round. It is not good to crash in the first few laps. But we are still second overall and have a lot of races left to run.” More, from a press release issued by Yamaha: Davies Takes Hard Fought Podium in Brno Yamaha ParkinGo Team was back on the podium again today in Brno for the sixth time in seven rounds of the 2011 World Supersport championship. Chaz Davies worked hard to take a well-earned third place after a challenging weekend in extreme heat. The Brit was on form and got off to an ideal start from his seventh place on today’s grid to immediately move up to sixth. Davies got straight down to business, making short work of riders ahead and was sitting in third place by lap 15 just less than four tenths of a second off Foret in second when his progress was haltered as the race was red flagged. Team-mate Luca Scassa completed the shortened race in seventh place. The Italian struggled from a lack of grip from the beginning of the race but despite this, fought hard to gradually make up several positions and was pushing into sixth when engine failure caused Harms to lose oil and the race to be called to a premature end. Chaz Davies remains in the lead of the 2011 World Supersport Championship on 121 points, 36 points ahead of Parkes in second. Luca Scassa also gained valuable points in Brno and is sitting in fifth place in the standings just six points short of Parkes in second place. Chaz Davies Yamaha ParkinGO Team – 3rd “I was doing well in the final stages, I had a fast pace considering the temperature. I was battling with my conscience towards the last few laps. I wasn’t sure if I should push for a second or a win or just settle with third. In the end I didn’t have a choice but I’m happy with a podium and 16 points is not so bad considering the tough weekend we’ve had.” Luca Scassa Yamaha ParkinGO Team – 7th “A very difficult weekend ended well. I had a problem with the bike and the strange thing was that as the race progressed, I was improving on my times unlike everyone else, but once you are five seconds behind it’s not easy to catch up. I had just passed Lowes and Harms was just in front of me when he lost oil and it went all over me. I would have passed him for 6th but the race was red flagged. The championship is still open. It won’t be easy but we have to work hard to solve some grip problems we are experiencing and hopefully make improvements in Silverstone to be in a position to be more competitive.”
