Bryan Desimone, 1:49.021 More, from a press release issued by Geiger Media on behalf of GEICO: Points leader Fillmore on top of XR1200 class at Mid-Ohio LEXINGTON, Ohio (July 10) — GEICO Harley rider Chris Fillmore from the powerful Richie Morris Racing camp has already stamped his mark on this weekend’s Honda Supercycle Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire by qualifying at the top of the AMA Vance & Hines XR1200 class. The current championship points leader was joined by teammates Kyle Wyman and Michael Corbino, who qualified fourth and ninth, respectively. Filmore managed to lay down the fastest lap even though he entered the qualifying action halfway through the session. He missed the first half of the round because he had just finished racing in the AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike race and needed time to switch bikes. “Qualifying went really well especially considering I hopped off one bike and onto another,” Fillmore said. “It should be a great XR1200 race tomorrow. The top five were all really close and it could be anybody’s race.” Since Fillmore is pulling double duty he knows that he needs to be extra focused on taking care of himself in the heat so he can be best prepared for the races. “I’ve got to make sure I’m all there for both races but I know I can do it,” Fillmore said. “I’m just going to stay hydrated, eat well, and hopefully head out there and ride two good races.” GEICO teammate Wyman is also pulling double duty this weekend. He is competing in the Daytona SportBike class for the first time this season, as well as the XR1200 series. Wyman opened the XR1200 season with a win but has struggled to return to the winner’s circle since then. “It’s good to be back in the front row,” Wyman said. “I’ve had a bit of a drought lately so it feels good, like I got my groove back. I think getting to ride the SportBike helped my qualifying on the XR1200 since it gave me some more time on the track. I’m hoping that this is a sign as to what’s to come for the rest of my season.” Fellow GEICO rider Corbino is coming off a career-best finish at the last event at Barber Motorsports Park and has plans to build on that success in Sunday’s race. “We did okay today, I can’t complain,” Corbino said. “Of course I wanted to be in the first two rows but I’m not too far back in ninth so I’m looking forward to tomorrow. I’m going into tomorrow just like any other race. I plan to ride the whole thing, be smart, and pass where I can. Hopefully that’ll add up to a top five finish for me.” The AMA Vance & Hines XR1200 race begins at 12:30 p.m. EST at Mid Ohio Sports Car Complex in Lexington, Ohio.
