New points leader Eslick enjoying view from the top LEXINGTON, Ohio (July 8) The 2011 AMA Daytona SportBike Series has the potential to be everything that current points leader Danny Eslick had envisioned for his GEICO Suzuki race team. “This is exactly where I wanted to be at this point in the season,” Eslick said. “We worked our way up here after a DNF at the first race of the year and now it’s our job to keep the lead and hopefully build on it.” The view from the front of the pack is very fresh for Eslick as he only gained the lead at the last event at Barber Motorsports Park. The 2009 class champion is comfortable in the fact that he now holds his fate in his own hands. “We plan to make the second half of the season better than the first,” Eslick said. “I’m ready for that challenge and I know my entire gang here at Richie Morris Racing is ready for it too.” The Oklahoman had some time to really appreciate gaining the points lead as the series had a two-week break before this weekend’s Honda Supercycle Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire. “It was definitely nice to have time to reflect,” Eslick said. “It’s been a while since we’ve gotten some time off but as much as I liked the break, I’m ready to be back on the racetrack. I may be in the points lead but there is a lot of racing left so we’ve got to get back on track and see if we can hold onto the No. 1 spot for the next five races.” The sixth round of the AMA Daytona Sportbike runs Friday through Sunday at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
