CATALIN CAZACU, the Romanian Supersport Champion in 2009 and Romanian Superbike winner in 2010, will race for PTR Romania Honda at Brno on July 10th and is planning on making his mark in the World Supersport Championship. Cazacu, 27, from Timisoara in Romania, is planning to finish the World Championship season with PTR Romania Honda before mounting a full season challenge for race wins and the title in 2012. Cazacu said: “This is a dream come true for me, not only am I joining the highest profile team in Romania, but I will be starting at what is the nearest home round to Romania at Brno – a track that I know well. My aim is to learn the bike quickly and challenge for good position. “That is ambitious but I know my own ability and the Brno circuit very well. It is also clear from the performances of Sam Lowes, Miguel Praia, James Ellison and Pawel Szkopek that the PTR Romania Honda is a very fast motorcycle capable of running easily in the top 10 and challenging for race wins. “I am looking forward to working with Ursus and the other Romanian sponsors and hope there is a big crowd at Brno to support me and the team – this is my big chance and I intend to make it good.” Cazacu takes over from Roby Muresan who is hoping to come back to racing later in the season and fly the Romanian flag alongside him in the same team. PTR Romania Honda Team Manager Simon Buckmaster said: “It has been a long time in discussion with Catalin and now we are delighted to welcome him to the team. He has a lot of confidence and experience at Brno, so we are looking forward to seeing what he can achieve. He is a popular racer in Romania and we hope a lot of his fans come and join us for his first race and keep supporting him throughout the rest of the season, that will help him a lot.” The seventh round of the World Supersport Championship takes place at Brno in the Czech Republic on Sunday 10th July at 1330CET, with practice and qualifying sessions on the Friday and Saturday before.
