Nadr Riad, 38 More, from a press release issued by AMA Pro Racing: ELKHART LAKE, WI (June 5, 2011) – After finishing second in yesterday’s AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport race, Travis Wyman took his career first AMA Pro Road Racing victory in today’s SuperSport Race 2 at Elkhart Lake’s Road America. Wyman, riding his Harv’s Harley-Davidson AB1 Racing Yamaha, took the victory by more than four seconds over second-place Dustin Dominguez (Latus Motors Racing) and third-place finisher Tomas Puerta (LTD Racing Y.E.S. Yamaha). Wyman, who’d finished third in the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 race immediately preceding SuperSport Race 2, had to actually skip those Victory Circle activities to get back out in time for the all-important SuperSport sighting lap. That investment clearly paid off just minutes later, as Travis overcame a lackluster start to begin advancing through the field. The Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport race began right where it left off yesterday, with a furious battle at the front led by a sensational race-starter Elena Myers (SuzukiScoopFans Racing), who headed at least eight riders in a drafting battle all the way around the 4.05-mile Road America track. Yesterday’s winner, David Gaviria (LTD Racing Y.E.S. Yamaha) was part of the battle until he and Infineon Raceway double-winner Benny Solis (Roadracingworld.com) came together, Gaviria taking both riders down. Two additional contenders tangled as well, as Cory Alexander (Vesrah Suzuki) and yesterday’s third-place finisher, James Rispoli (ANT-Racing.com Suzuki) fell when Cory lost the front and slid under Rispoli in turn 10A, taking both out of the race. Wyman, meanwhile, had fought his way up to join the battle at the front, and once in the lead, was able to pull away from the pack behind. Myers and Puerta were battling furiously with Dominguez, who was riding a Triumph Daytona 675 R for Latus Motors Racing’s debut in the SuperSport class. Just behind followed Ricky Parker and Stefano Mesa (Rata Racing), but Mesa ultimately dropped back after a couple of off-track excursions. Myers consolidated her excellent day with a fourth-place finish ahead of Parker, but the real battle as the laps wound down was between Dominguez and Puerta. Each took turns leading the other, but it was Dominguez who claimed the runner-up spot by .230 seconds. Despite his non-finish, Gaviria still leads the AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport West Division Championship with 154 points to Solis’ 133. Alexander currently sits third, with 123. Travis Wyman, 1st: “I was confident going into the SuperSport race because of yesterday and all the practice we’ve had this weekend. I felt good, but didn’t get the best start … but eventually I got up front and put my head down. There were about two bikes in front of me when [the crash] happened, and all I saw were sparks. Unfortunately they went down, but I was able to get around it and make up some ground. I really just put my head down and hoped I wasn’t going to get drafted back on any of these corners. I didn’t look back at all. I made a few mistakes on a couple corners and went wide, but came through and got my first win.” Dustin Dominguez, 2nd: “After Daytona I got a call from [the team], and they asked me if I’d be interested in riding with them. You can’t pass that up so I said, ‘Heck yeah.’ I’m an East Coast rider, so this is our first weekend to ride the Triumph, to test it out and see what we need to work on for Barber. Friday was the first day I even sat on this motorcycle, so it was good right off the bat.” Tomas Puerta, 3rd: “I put my head down to try to follow Kyle, but Dominguez was there and it was impossible to catch him. I tried to draft and almost highsided my bike on the last turn.
