MAN: PUERTA QUICKEST IN FRIDAY’S ELKHART LAKE SUPERSPORT QUALIFYING Elkhart Lake, WI (June 3, 2011) – Tomas Puerta and LTD Racing Y.E.S. Yamaha were quickest in the first of two qualifying sessions for this weekend’s AMA Pro Supersport races at Road America. David Gaviria took an excellent third position and Sam Nash earned 11th despite a small crash in the session. Huntley Nash impressed with a 16th position qualifying in the deep Daytona SportBike field on Friday. Puerta, backed by Yamaha Extended Services, said he wanted to charge hard early this weekend and was more than a second ahead of the next competitor. His time was 2:23.144. “I wanted to push to make the best time,” said Puerta, from Medellin, Colombia. “I am leading the East points but it is important to get wins and I was a little disappointed with how our Utah race turned out. It was important for me to get up to speed quickly because I think this will be a tough race. I will think about my strategy tonight.” Gaviria took third in provisional SuperSport qualifying. The Colombian was just two thousandths of a second out of second place. “We made some changes for a certain section of the bike and it helped but it made the bike worse on other parts. We will try to go back to the settings I used in the middle of the session. I am pretty happy with the results here. The track is very fast and I like it. The draft makes a difference here.” Sam Nash earned 11th place in SuperSport but the law student has shown great potential so far. He was ninth in the morning and ran much higher during the session. “I’m happy. I went a little slower than in practice but I got in too deep in turn three and had a minor lowside. I’ll be back tomorrow.” Huntley Nash dropped almost 2.5 seconds in the afternoon as the talented rider continues to learn the ropes in the difficult Daytona SportBike class. He qualified 16th as the former SuperSport race winner continues to hone his setup for the twin DSB races at Road America. “It’s going okay and we are trying to get the front end feel like I want it to get in and out of the corners faster,” said Nash. “I got my first win here so I know what a bike needs to feel like. I’m ready to help do my part and the team has already improved the bike. We’re already on the right track.” LTD Racing’s Director of Competition Gary Medley said, “It went well today. Tomas is on the gas. Huntley and David had some front-end issues but we’ve got some ideas. Huntley got going and we made some changes to his bike and we’re headed in a good direction. The SuperSport boys were up there as usual and we are in a spot to have some more good races. It’s very important since it is a combined event and we want to do as well as possible, but it’s the end of the year picture we are looking at, as well as get Huntley in the top ten. The season is heating up and we are hard at work.”
