The fifth round of the Superbike World Championship will take place over the weekend of May 28-29-30 at the Miller Motorsports Park near Salt Lake City, Utah, in the USA. The race-card scheduled the two Superbike races on Monday, because the last Monday of May in the United States is a traditionally set aside for Memorial Day to honour soldiers who have died serving their country. The Miller Motorsport track was originally conceived as a novelty track for Larry H. Miller, owner of the NBA’s Utah Jazz, to use as a personal playground. The track was designed by world renowned engineer Alan Wilson. The large track was opened to the public on 1 April 2006. On 22 August, 2007, Miller Motorsports Park announced a three-year deal to bring the FIM Superbike World Championship to the track; the Superbike World Championship has raced at the track for the first time on 1 June 2008 with the AMA Superbike Championship. Circuit main characteristics : Length : m.4.907 Pole Position : right Corners : 15 Race distance: 21 laps (103.047 km) Superbike best lap : Carlos Checa (Ducati) 2010 1’47″081 Superbike lap record : Carlos Checa (Ducati) 2010 1’48″045 Roberto Rolfo : “I don’t know the Miller track very well having only ridden there in 2008. I really liked it though as it has fluid turns and is set in amazing “lunar” surroundings! The track is 1500m above sea level and so the engines struggle a bit but it’s great to have to make quick changes in direction and some violent braking, with corners that you take in first and in fourth with your knee on the ground. I love the atmosphere at Miller, there’s a party atmosphere that surrounds the racing and a sun that burns due to the altitude! I feel ready and want to do well; I need to get back on board after the disappointing Monza results”¦ I’ll give it my all”. Mark Aitchison : “I am really looking forward to arriving and getting started in Miller Park, Utah. The bigger fly away races are always fun on the calendar. The fans are always excited to watch the racing and even though I love Europe, it’s cool to travel to the US and race. My main aim for the race weekend is to get the bike working consistently again like our Assen round. If we can do this and understand the important parts of the Miller racetrack, then I think we can put the Pedercini Kawasaki further up the order”.
