The Swan Yamaha team are preparing for the fourth round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship this Bank Holiday weekend (28-30 May) at Thruxton as Tommy Hill continues to recover from his shoulder injury and Michael Laverty bids for his first podium of the season. Hill currently lies fifth in the overall standings despite his two non-starts at Oulton Park following his warm up crash that left him sidelined, but he fought the pain last time out at Croft to secure an impressive sixth place. Laverty showed he had the pace to challenge for the victory but the wrong tyre choice in changing conditions and a crash in the second race ended his charge for the top. This weekend the Swan Yamaha pairing are determined to make amends in a bid to make a return to the podium at the fastest track on the BSB calendar. Hill said: “I feel ready for Thruxton and I have been having some more laser treatment and acupuncture since Croft to try and be as fit as I can be for the next round. At Croft I did the two races and then wanted to put my helmet back on and do more as I was feeling stronger as the weekend went on. The Swan Yamaha team have also been working hard with the bike so we are as prepared as possible to be up there come Bank Holiday Monday. Last year I had a pole position, a win and a second place at Thruxton so ideally I would like a repeat if not better. I want to be pushing for wins again rather than worrying about my shoulder and I think the extra time will make all the difference. I want to be fit again and not needing to make any excuses; I want to get the championship back on track for Swan Yamaha and hopefully I can do that at Thruxton.” Laverty said: “I just need to turn my fortunes around this weekend at Thruxton. I have had the speed throughout the practices and qualifying but so far it just hasn’t translated to the races and now I really need to be turning it into results and podium finishes. I was unlucky at Croft with the first race on the tyre choice and then in race two I had that crash; I need consistent finishes to try and gain back the ground I have lost now. I need to be back inside that top six in the standings, which is what we are capable of. I intend on going out there and doing the best possible job I can to get the Swan Yamaha back inside the top three and on that podium at Thruxton.”
