Westby, 8 More, from a press release issued by Vesrah Suzuki: VESRAH SUZUKI HAS SOLID RESULTS ON DAY 1 OF THE WEST COAST MOTO JAM AT INFINEON RACEWAY. Vesrah Suzuki riders Cory West, Taylor Knapp and Corey Alexander on their 2011 Suzuki GSX-R 600’s had solid results in the first set of races in the doubleheader weekend at the West Coast Moto Jam. Cory and Taylor qualified on the second row for the Daytona Sportbike races and Corey qualified on the front row for Supersport with the set up on the team’s bikes improving in each session. In the Daytona Sportbike class Cory West on the #57 Vesrah Suzuki was able finish the race in 6th, which is where he qualified while battling grip issues with the rear tire. Taylor Knapp qualified seventh on the #44 and ended up 11th at the finish. Cory remains in second place in the 2011 Daytona Sportbike Championship. Corey Alexander #5 was able to quickly learn the circuit and qualify on the front row. Corey battled for a podium finish and ended up just short in 4th place and now lies in 3rd place in the 2011 AMA Pro Racing Supersport West championship. Mark Junge Team Owner Vesrah Suzuki “In the team’s second visit to Infineon our day 1 results have greatly improved from last year. The team will be working overnight to refine the set-up even further and push for the podium.” Cory West Vesrah Suzuki #57 “I managed to pull out a flier on the last lap of qualifying to get myself on the second row on the grid in sixth position. I got a good start in the race and worked my way into fourth. The pace that the front running twin cylinders were pushing was too much but I felt comfortable running with 3rd place. I kept the podium spot in sight for a while but started to struggle with rear tire grip. I could not be aggressive with the throttle and ending up fading backwards. It was a frustrating race but we know what we need to do to make the bike better for race 2 tomorrow. I’m happy that we salvaged as many points as possible and that we get another shot at it tomorrow.” Taylor Knapp Vesrah Suzuki #44 “Qualifying went well and my lap times were good with both medium and soft compound tires and I wound up with a good starting position on row 2 for the race. The race itself was really disappointing for me as I could see the leader in the beginning of the race but just couldn’t make a charge as the tire went off pretty early and I faded further and further back. I have a good crew who is working really hard at giving me a better set-up and we made a lot of changes for tomorrow so hopefully I can get up there and race at the front.” Corey Alexander Vesrah Suzuki #5 “First off I’d like to give a huge thanks to everyone that is part of the Vesrah Suzuki team but especially my mechanics Barry and Tim. My all-new Suzuki 2011 GSX-600 was really fast and was working well. I was happy to get up on the front row but unfortunately we couldn’t run the front-runners pace during the race. I’m very happy with my fourth place finish but it is bittersweet as we were just short of a podium. Hopefully tomorrow goes even better and we will be able to run up front where I want to be.” Vesrah Suzuki wants to thank all of their sponsors for their support for the 2011 season Vesrah, American Suzuki, Rockstar Energy Drink, Nielsen Enterprises Suzuki, Penske Racing Shocks, Traxxion Dynamics Fork Components, Yoshimura, Catalyst Racing Composites, Sudco Int., Bazzaz, Factory Pro, Maxima Racing Oils, Vortex, DID Chain, GPR Stabilizers, Trek Bicycles, GP Tech, Active, Suzuka Tire Warmers, Pit Bull & Road Rage Designs More, from a press release issued by Geiger Media on behalf of GEICO: Eslick on podium in Sonoma after solid third-place result SONOMA, Calif. (May 14) — GEICO pro Danny Eslick rode his Richie Morris Racing Suzuki to a third-place finish Saturday afternoon at Infineon Raceway in the first of two Daytona SportBike events at the West Coast Moto Jam. Although he came up a little short of his goal of defending his 2010 victory at this event, the past class champion was pleased with the effort around the 2.3-mile road course. “Not too bad,” Eslick said. “I got off to a good start and settled into third there. I saw Jake Holden run off the track and I snuck by into the second spot for a little while, but the way he was running I figured he’d be coming back by me and sure enough he ran me down and was able to retake the spot.” Eslick qualified third overall and earned a front row starting spot, which helped him get out of the gate strong on his Suzuki. But the day belonged to Ducati riders Jason DiSalvo and Holden, who simply had too much horsepower. The two finished first and second, respectively. “It was a tough race,” Eslick said. “Running with those two guys is always a challenge. The three of us were able to pull away from the rest of the pack but I really didn’t have anything for the one and two guys.” The podium finish was worth 21 points for Eslick, who was blanked in the season opener in Daytona, Fla., when a crash removed him from the field before the event was red-flagged and eventually shortened over front tire concerns. Eslick is now ninth in the AMA points heading into Sunday’s second race. “From what we left Daytona with to coming out of here with a third-place finish is pretty solid,” Eslick said. “We definitely made up some points and I’m really excited about that. “The team’s been working hard. We’ve been making a lot of progress and we can only go up from here. Hopefully we get the chance to run tomorrow, although the weather forecast isn’t looking too good right now. I’d really like to ride today’s momentum and pick up some more points here before we all head to Utah.” Sunday’s race is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. PST. All racing action will be carried live on SPEED. More, from a press release issued by AMA Pro Racing: SONOMA, CA (March 14, 2011) – Team Latus Motors Racing’s Jason DiSalvo took his second consecutive 2011 AMA Pro Daytona SportBike win Saturday, but for many fans and spectators, the hero of the twenty-two laps was second-place finisher Jake Holden. Holden, who began the 2011 season with an East Coast-based team, showed up at Infineon Raceway’s Round 2 under the Jake Holden Racing banner, a grassroots-funded effort supported mainly by friends, family, and small, individual sponsors. “We’re little under-funded,” said Holden, after taking Friday’s provisional pole, “but I’ve got some great friends and sponsors. I’m living a dream. I get emotional thinking about how everyone is helping.” Race fans shared in that emotion Saturday, as Holden started the race by putting an immediate pass on then-second Danny Eslick (GEICO Powersports RMR Suzuki) and setting out after DiSalvo, refusing to be shaken from the latter’s rear wheel as the two built a steadily increasing gap on the rest of the field. While a ten-bike freight train snaked through the turns behind them, Holden repeatedly tried the inside and outside of DiSalvo’s every turn, until a mistake sent him into the grass at Turn 4 with more than half the race remaining. Having stayed upright, Holden blended back into the field in seventh and began methodically picking off the riders ahead, first dispatching GP Bike Parts Racing’s Cameron Beaubier and Vesrah Suzuki’s Cory West, then Y.E.S./Pat Clark/Graves Motorsports’ Tommy Aquino, and Celtic Racing/Fast by Ferracci’s PJ Jacobsen. The next in line””Danny Eslick””put up significantly more of a fight, but in the end was left in the dust as Holden dove around the outside and put three bike-lengths on the GEICO rider before Eslick had a chance to react. DiSalvo, at this point, was a full eight seconds ahead of second place, but with Holden laying down blazingly quick laps and eleven laps still remaining, the math pointed to the possibility of a dramatic last few laps. As the laps ticked down, so too did the gap under Holden’s unrelenting assault. DiSalvo’s lead narrowed from eight seconds to just a few tenths over four seconds in a handful of laps, but there DiSalvo was able to stop Holden’s charge, ramping up his own laptimes enough to maintain the cushion. Though Holden eventually had to cede to the value of a second-place finish vs. throwing it all away, the hard riding had carried the pair a whopping 15.6 seconds ahead of third-place Eslick by the finish. Behind Eslick, the top ten crossed in the following order: Jacobsen, Aquino, West, Beaubier, Paul Allison (Triple Crown Industries), Tyler Odom (Don Odom Racing), Tyler O’Hara (GP Bike Parts Racing). Eslick, 3rd: “I got a good launch right from the get-go and settled into second, then Jake went by. I had those guys to chase for the first few laps “¦ but that was a tough race; once those guys took off, it was pretty much uneventful. Hats off to those guys, they rode a heck of a race. I think I might need a twelve-gauge with a three-and-a-half-inch magnum to catch these ducks.” Holden, 2nd: [Going off-track] was just a stupid mistake. I got a little too close to Jason trying to settle in with him maybe get a rhythm going; got too close and ran wide. I got back on, but by that point I was pretty pissed off at myself because my crew working so hard to get this program together and I didn’t want to let them down. So I just put my head down and went, didn’t really pay attention to anything. [Finishing second] is great; I mean, we would have liked to win, but second place is good, and I think it’s well-deserved for our team. I’m just a small piece of this puzzle; everybody from management to friends from the Northwest have helped out and made this successful.” DiSalvo, 1st: “At the beginning I felt like we were running a pretty good pace”¦. I was just trying to run a pace I could run for 22 laps. I think I know the lap that Jake ran off, because I could hear his bike behind me””it got real loud, and then it went away. Once that happened, that reflected immediately on my pit board, so knew I had a big gap. I kind of put my head down for a couple laps, extended it out to six seconds, then let up for a little bit and just started managing the gap that we had. Then all of a sudden it started to shrink, rather quickly. I looked over and saw Jake was in second “¦ all I knew is that I needed to ride harder. I put my head down and was able to keep Jake at bay and keep the gap pretty solid, but I definitely think tomorrow’s going to be a dog fight again.” For tickets to or information about Round 2, Day 2, at Infineon Raceway, visit www.infineonraceway.com.
