AMA Pro Superbike riders Chris Ulrich and Martin Cardenas gave San Francisco area reporters and a major donor to the Roadracing World Action Fund thrill-of-a-lifetime experiences with multi-lap rides on the Team M4 Suzuki two-seat GSX-R1000 Superbike Thursday at Infineon Raceway. David Bolling, Editor of the Sonoma Index Tribune newspaper; Evan Borders of KTVU Channel 2, San Francisco’s Fox network affiliate; and Infineon Raceway’s social networking specialist Colin Monahan all got to experience Infineon Raceway’s 2.52-mile, 12-turn road course and top speeds of approximately 140 mph from the back of Ulrich’s two-seat racebike while his teammate Cardenas rode in close proximity on a camera-equipped GSX-R600 to provide video footage and a small sense of racing for the guests. In addition, Jose Morquecho, a photographer with Comcast SportsNet Bay Area Sports, shot video of the rides from trackside and did on-camera interviews with Ulrich, Cardenas and others who rode. “I’ve been around here in lots of different vehicles, but I’ve never experienced anything like that. Holy sh-t!” said Bolling. “I’ve always understood that it is very physical, but that really is a workout! I don’t know how they do an entire race.” In spite of the physical nature of the ride–something commented on by all of the guests–it did not stop 75-year-old Timothy Bryant from becoming the oldest person to enjoy a ride on Ulrich’s two-seat Superbike. “Wow! That was incredible,” said Bryant, a retired engineer and life-long motorcyclist. Bryant got his opportunity thanks to his son, Paul Bryant, who arranged the ride by making a significant donation to the Roadracing World Action Fund. “That was fantastic. I think the acceleration and the braking were the biggest surprises, how violent they were. There’s a lot of torque going on there. I loved the whole thing. However much Paul gave you for the ride I’ll double it if I can go again. That was fantastic!” Team Hammer, which currently races as Team M4 Suzuki, has offered rides on two-seat racebikes to local reporters to help promote AMA Pro National Guard Superbike events and motorcycle road racing in general for over 10 years, and Ulrich has given over 450 two-seat racebike rides since 2004 without incident. Ulrich also gives rides on his two-seat racebike to the general public to raise funds for the Roadracing World Action Fund (~http://actionfund.roadracingworld.com/~), a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization which advocates and promotes the use of soft barriers to help prevent rider injuries at racetracks.
