Eagle-eyed race fans may have spotted something rather curious on the helmet of American Moto2 rider Kenny Noyes since the start of the 2011 season: The Avintia-STX rider has teamed up with Lean Angle Canada to help promote the use of their Medical Information Carrier System (MICS) for helmets, and Noyes now sports the black one-by-two inch pouch containing all his medical information on the side of the HJC helmet he races in. The system is as simple as it is ingenious: A small rectangular rubber pouch which can be stuck to the side of a motorcycle helmet. Inside the pouch are details which can prove vital to medical staff attending an accident, including the identity of the rider and other important medical information. On the outside of the pouch, in bold letters, is information for the first people to find the rider, warning them not to remove the rider’s helmet, something which is the first instinct for many untrained attendees at the scene of an accident, but which could prove life-threatening should a downed rider have sustained a neck injury in the crash. That combination of simplicity and ingenuity is what attracted Kenny to the project. Being part of a project that can help save the lives of street riders is a source of real pride to the American. The fact that the system could help people taking part in other adventure sports, such as skateboarding, mountain biking, rock climbing, or snowboarding is an added bonus. In addition to providing Kenny with the MICS pouch system, Lean Angle Canada is also supplying the Avintia-STX rider with TechSpec Gripster Grip Pads for his FOGI-Racing backed FTR Moto2 machine. The TechSpec Gripsters feature a proprietary “releasable and reusable” adhesive, which allow Kenny’s BQR team to quickly and precisely locate and relocate the grip pads on the tank of his FTR, based on feedback he gives during practice. The outstanding levels of grip and highly tunable positioning give Kenny an extra advantage in the extremely competitive Moto2 class. For more information on the MICS Medical Information Carrier System and on the TechSpec Gripster Grip Pads, and the location of your nearest dealer, visit Lean Angle Canada’s website at www.leanangle.ca. Kenny said, “One of the best parts of racing is having the support of so many great companies, but to be involved in something which could save a person’s life is just awesome. I love the fact that the MICS system is so simple, but it could really make a huge difference if the worst happens. Even though I’m racing at the safest tracks in the world with the best medical staff at the corners and in the Clinica Mobile, knowing that I have my medical information in my MICS pouch on the helmet gives me an extra feeling of confidence, knowing the doctors can get the data they need immediately. If you’re out riding on the street, without trained medical staff everywhere, this could help save your life. I really can’t recommend the MICS pouches highly enough!” “Of course, you don’t really want to have to need the MICS pouch in the first place, and that’s where the TechSpec Gripster Grip Pads come in. At the world championship level, you’re riding right at the edge of your ability, and everything you can do to help you control your bike is crucial. These TechSpec Gripsters make a big difference in helping me get to the limit of my FTR M211 and keep it there safely.”
