Chaz Davies e Luca Scassa have finished the first day of free and qualifying practice in first and second place confirming what it could be during the race, to a already good number of spectators arrived today to the 5.777m track. At the known “temple of speed” circuit, the british and italian riders have been changing the top positions during the two sessions. The Italian-based team hopes to confirm same results Tomorrow, to be able to extend the advantage from Broc Parkes, today fifth, on the race sunday, where they expect to get 100.000 excited motorcycle fans. Chaz Davies – Yamaha YZF R6 #7 – “I have a really good feeling with the bike and the circuit that feels like a home track for me. His Polish teammate, Pawel Szkopek, ended the day 19th overall, with Marcin Walkowiak 30th in the Superstock 1000 and the whole team expecting more on the second day of qualifying tomorrow ahead of the Sunday’s race. James Ellison: “Our pace is a lot better than what the times might suggest. We’ve made a good start this morning but then changed the gearing for the afternoon and made the gears longer. It worked well on the straights but we’ve lost time in the corners so for tomorrow we’re going back to what we’ve had this morning and that should make a big difference. I think we can make up a second with that and I need to find the rest in myself.” Pawel Szkopek: “On one hand this track looks easy but even the smallest mistake in the chicanes usually costs a lot of time. Today we’ve worked on getting round the chicanes as fast as possible and I’m pleased with the end result. I’m still losing some time on the exit on the main straight but we’ll work on that tomorrow and hopefully find a bit more grip there. So far, so good though, and it’s a good start to the weekend.” Marcin Walkowiak: “We’re making steady progress but it’s still not enough and the gap to the front is too big. I’ve noticed others using different lines in the first chicane and the last corner and I improved that part in the end but I can still go a lot quicker and I’ll do my best tomorrow.” Simon Buckmaster: “James has a plan for tomorrow and along with small changes to the way he rides and his bike we expect he can compete much further up the grid. “Pawel has enjoyed a good start and has a base set up to work on and will go faster tomorrow, he has the potential to score more points this weekend.” More, from a press release issued by Hannspree Ten Kate Honda: Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider Florian Marino set the fourth fastest time in this afternoon’s opening qualifying session for Sunday’s fourth round World Supersport championship race at Monza in Italy. British rider Chaz Davies was fastest as Marino’s Honda CBR600RR-mounted team-mate Fabien Foret set the ninth quickest lap at the 5.777km Monza circuit just north of Milan. Foret had been making steady progress during the day and went out in the final few minutes of qualifying with softer tyres. However, after small errors at Monza’s first chicane the French rider aborted two laps to preserve his tyres and took the chequered flag before he could move up the timing sheets. His 18-year-old compatriot, however, is satisfied with a provisional front row start, which follows an excellent front-running performance last time out at Assen in the Netherlands. Florian Marino P4 This afternoon was a little better than this morning. We were able to lap competitively but I am still fighting with the bike too much. I was to go in one direction but the bike wants to go the opposite way! We adjusted the clutch and engine braking today and I think we’ll continue working in this way and hope that tomorrow we can improve some more. Fabien Foret P9 I spend a lot of time in the garage today and then, at the end when I put in a softer tyre, I missed the chicane and suddenly it was the end of the session. I was disappointed not to be higher but I am sure we can improve tomorrow. Ronald ten Kate team manager We still have quite a bit of work to do but the direction seems pretty clear. Despite still having some set-up issues, Florian still has shown some speed here. Fabien didn’t get a good shot with the softer tyre so it should be ea sy for him to improve his position tomorrow. It’s almost a case of déjà vu from the Assen round where we made some massive changes for Saturday, so it will be all hands on deck to improve things for tomorrow.
