A difficult weekend for team Pedercini in Monza. Good weather conditions today in Monza for the second races of the Italian Superstock 1000 and Superbike Championships after yesterday’s rain. In the Superbike race both Borciani and Faccietti started from the fifth row of the grid in today’s 14 lap race. Having made a quick start, Borciani moved up to an impressive sixth position but was unfortunately forced to end his race half way through when he suffered some technical problems. Faccietti also made a strong start but during the fifth lap he made a mistake at the first corner of the circuit which caused him to lose some positions and finish the race in twelfth position. Superbike Race : 1) Baiocco (Ducati) 2) Conforti (Ducati) 3) Polita (Ducati) 4) Mandatori (Aprilia) 5) Sandi (Ducati)”¦.12) Faccietti (Kawasaki) Ret Borciani (Kawasaki) Marco Borciani: “I’m disappointed with today’s result because my start was very fast and I was able to make up a lot of positions. Unfortunately after only a few laps I began to feel chattering coming from the rear wheel and I lost contact with the leading group. It was the same problem I had already suffered during qualifying and practice. I tried to maintain my position but without warning the engine died and I was forced to retire from the race. I know my team will work to solve these problems and I’m confident for the next race in Misano.” Fulvio Faccietti : ” I’m pretty satisfied with my performance today as I was able to end the race and obtain some points which are important for the championship standings. After a quick start I was fighting in the second group of riders but unfortunately I made a mistake at the first chicane and lost a lot of positions. Considering the problems we have had during qualifying, I’m happy with final twelfth place and I am looking forward to the next race. I want to thank all my technicians for their hard work.” Mixed results today in Monza for team Pedercini’s Superstock riders. Second row starts for Staring and Mercado while Bussolotti started from the row behind. A very strong quick start for Mercado put him up in third place during the first laps of the race. Staring and Bussolotti followed the Argentinian respectively in seventh and eighth position. All three riders fought in the leading group but unfortunately Mercado crashed at the first chicane during the last lap, ending his race in the gravel. Staring closed in sixth position with Bussolotti just behind him in seventh. Superstock 1000 Race : 1) Zanetti (BMW) 2) Magnoni (BMW) – 3) Barrier (BMW) 4) Petrucci (Ducati) 5) Perotti (BMW) – 6) Staring (Kawasaki) 7) Bussolotti (Kawasaki) Ret Mercado (Kawasaki) Bryan Staring : “I’m really disappointed because today we missed out on a good opportunity to obtain a better result. I also lost a lot of time through the Arcari chicane because this was my first time riding at this circuit and it was not so easy to understand it. Sixth position is not a bad result but I’m sure I can do better starting with next week’s Superstock 1000 FIM Cup race. We must modify something with regard to the set up of my bike to be able to fight for the podium.” Marco Bussolotti : “It’s really incredible but again today (it happened already during yesterday’s qualifying) a stone broke the radiator of my Ninja and in the last few laps my engine was not working properly due to its high temperature. My start was pretty good and I fought in the leading group waiting until the last laps to overtake some riders and reach the front three. Considering the problem I had with the radiator, seventh place is a good result, but I hope to be luckier in the next Superstock FIM Cup race here in Monza.” Leandro “Tati” Mercado : “It was my fault. During the last lap I wanted to overtake the riders in front of me and I entered the first chicane too fast. I lost the front wheel and I crashed, fortunately without any physical consequences. I’m really sorry for my team because they worked very hard over the whole weekend. I hope for better results in the upcoming races.” More, from a press release issued by JiR Moto2 Team: GP of Portugal, race: De Angelis ends the day in 12th The third grand prix of the season at the Estoril circuit was a hard one for the JiR Team, but one in which team and rider made a hard-fought comeback. Alex De Angelis ended a frustrating race weekend with 12th place, recovering from terrible luck in practice yesterday. Three falls, one during practice and two in qualifying, not only forced De Angelis to start from the 28th position on the grid but also left him struggling to find the right feeling with his MotoBI as well affecting his physical condition. Starting from the back of the grid, he maintained his coolness despite yet more uncertain conditions to win four points in the Championship. Team and rider will now build on the experience accumulated over the weekend and take advantage of the two weeks until Le Mans to bounce back from a difficult weekend’s racing. Alex DeAngelis All in all it was not too bad today. My physical condition can hardly be called good and I really struggled, especially in the early laps. I could not ride relaxed, I was on my own, and after a few laps the muscles warmed-up and things became better. I managed to gap the group I was with and I got major points for the championship, especially because Andrea Iannone and Thomas Luthi crashed. Unfortunately, this race did not help much for the development of the bike: thanks to weather and our crashes, we probably rode the bike for longer in the race than in all other sessions. I’ll try to get back into shape and return to Le Mans and fight for the positions we are more accustomed to.” More, from a press release issued by FTR MOTO: FTR MOTO2 CHAMPIONSHIP CHALLENGE CONTINUES IN PORTUGAL FTR MOTO continued its challenge for the Moto2 World Championship as three of its M211 riders finished in the top 10 of Sunday’s third round at Estoril in Portugal. The IODA Racing Project Team’s Simon Corsi finished in fifth place and has moved to within 11 points of second place in the Championship. Ever-improving Pol Espargaro took his first World Championship points of the year as the young Spaniard brought his HP Tuenti Speed Up Team M211 home in sixth place at the end of the 26-lap race. Talented Blusens-STX rider Esteve Rabat completed the top 10 to add to his point-scoring finishes in the opening two rounds and the 21-year-old is joint 12th in the World Championship. Rabat started the race from 10th place and was involved in a six-way battle for sixth in the closing stages. Kenny Noyes on the FOGI Racing/GP Tech-backed FTR machine continues to adapt to the M211 and took his best finish of the campaign with 17th place, an agonising five seconds away from 14th place. Yonny Hernandez finished 18th, less than a second behind Noyes, on the Blusens-STX M211, missing out on Championship points for the first time in 2011. Colombian Hernandez fought through the field after being 36th at the end of the first lap. Mattia Pasini finished 20th on his IODA Racing Project Team machine with Santiago Hernandez 24th on the Stop and Go Team M211. Luckless French youngster Valentin Debise crashed out of 14th place with three laps to go on the HP Tuenti Speed Up M211 while Ratthapark Wilairot was forced to retire his SAG Team machine on lap 22. Kev Coghlan opted not to race the Aeroport de Castello M211 after a Friday morning practice crash left the young Scotsman with a broken hand. “Our results at Estoril were pretty solid again and we’re starting to see the emergence of the FTR riders as they become more acquainted with their respective M211 machinery,” said FTR’s Steve Bones. “Simone Corsi is definitely proving himself as a Championship contender and I’d like to think that, with the improvements we have planned, he can repeat what he did in Jerez and lead a race before hopefully securing a first win for himself, the IODA Team and FTR. “And the improved performance of some of the younger riders; Espargaro, Rabat, Debise and Hernandez means we have an exciting year ahead. We’re third in the Constructors Championship and I’d like to think we can join the battle for that title in the next few rounds.” More, from another press release issued by FTR MOTO: FTR TAKES DEBUT VICTORY IN ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP FTR MOTO won Sunday’s second round of the Italian Moto2 Championship after talented 19-year-old Alessandro Andreozzi eased to victory by 2.2s on the IODA Team FTR machine at Monza. The Italian was a comfortable race winner and made amends for his non finish at the opening round at Misano three weeks ago, he said: “It was a really good race for me and I am very happy with the result and with the performance of the machine.” The victory adds to an opening round podium finish for the IODA Team when their other rider Federico D’Annunzio finished third aboard his FTR at Misano. D’Annunzio followed up that third place with a fourth place finish at the 3.587-mile Monza circuit on Sunday and now sits in fourth place in the eight-round Championship, just seven points off the lead. Andreozzi is fifth in the Championship and is 11 points off the lead. FTR’s Steve Bones commented: “With Giampiero Sacchi’s IODA Team in the Italian Championship we’ve got two 19-year-olds in Alessandro and Federico and the pair of them have really made a positive start to the 2011 season and in the debut year for Moto2 in the Italian Championship. “It’s also pleasing to take victory on a fast circuit like Monza with its two long straights, we put a lot of effort into the aerodynamics package of the FTR machines and its performance was confirmed again for us on Sunday.” Round three of the Italian Championship is at Misano on June 25.
