The team owned by Denis Sacchetti ended the first race of the year with Niccolo’ Canepa on a tenth place and Nico Vivarelli on an eighteenth. An encouraging result, mainly paying attention to the improvements done during the weekend and to the work planned in sight of the rest of the season. At the green light signal Canepa kept his position until he gradually took over the competitors improving his time by six tenths seconds compared to the one scored during the practices. An exciting overtaking over the brand-mate Morais at the last chicane during the last lap. A good race for Nico Vivarelli as well, that after a not-so-good start was able to regain and improving like the team-mate his time of the practices. Vivarelli was getting himself up to the score-zone but during the last laps he’s been forced to lower his rhythm due to the back-tyre’s wear. Niccolò Canepa – Kawasaki STK 1000 #59 – “It’s been a weekend of constant improvements. In only week we’ve been able to reduce the gap from our competitors, but we still have rooms for more growth both on a technical than on rider’s level. I was in abstinence from races since quite some months, but is good to be back in the fight. I’m sure that since the next round on we will move another step forward.” Nico Vivarelli – Kawasaki STK 1000 #12 – “Today I just had lack of experience on this bike, but I’m now conscious to have one with a high potential to aim to big results. I’m sorry that I didn’t scored any points but the back tyre was really damaged, so after I reached the leaders group behind me I couldn’t launch my attack.” More, from a press release issued by Team Garnier Alpha Racing: Difficult beginning of the season The overall results are not good enough and some progress has to be made before the next race of the season. The situation with the suspension has to progress for the team to expect better results. Markus Reiterberger had a good start and was quickly in a good thirteenth position, but he lost a little bit of time in the chicane and finished seventeenth. It was more complicated for Beau Beaton and Randy Pagaud, but both finished the race in twentieth and twenty-fourth positions. The team knows where the problem is and a solution will be found for the next race in Monza. Davide Giugliano was the brilliant winner of this first event, in front of Danilo Petrucci, both riding a 1098R Ducati. The pole man Sylvain Barrier finished third. Michel Garnier (team owner): “We have had problems with the suspension since the beginning of the weekend and we couldn’t expect another result in the race. We need a suspension technician working only for us, not for four different teams. This is the first thing we must solve.” Markus Reiterberger: “I had a very good start. I was in tenth position and I saw that I could go fast. But when I entered the corners, I could not hold the line. I couldn’t accelerate properly because I wasn’t on the ideal line. The bike was pushing on the outside when I was entering the corners. I tried to go fast, but it was not easy. Next race, I’ll try to make it better.” Beau Beaton: “It was difficult. We got a really good start. Later in the race, I had a little bit of problem with the settings and the front tyre, so I went back to twentieth. It’s not too bad to finish the weekend.” Randy Pagaud: “I didn’t have a good start, but I still managed to overtake two riders in the first lap. It was good during the first 6 laps, but then the bike started to move too much when the tyres started to be used. I hope the next race will be better, even if it was a nice experience.” More, from a press release issued by Althea Racing: GIUGLIANO TAKES HIS MAIDEN WIN WITH THE ALTHEA RACING TEAM IN THE FIRST STOCK 1000 RACE OF THE 2011 SEASON AT ASSEN Assen (The Netherlands), Sunday 17th April 2011: after practice and qualifying sessions in which Davide Giugliano and the Althea Racing team had already demonstrated their potential, they continued to dominate in the Superstock 1000 race this morning at the TT Circuit in Assen. Giugliano led the 13-lap race from beginning to end, awarding the Althea Racing team with their first win of the Superstock season. Davide Giugliano, fully prepared and determined, got off the line like a bullet from pole position, immediately taking the lead while his team-mate Lorenzo Baroni unfortunately got caught up in traffic at the first corner which caused him to lose a couple of positions and find himself seventh at the end of the first lap. Both riders then found a good rhythm and while Giugliano maintained first position, Baroni was able to get past first Morais and then La Marra and Zanetta, to reach fourth position by the fifth lap. Losing grip in the final stages of the race, Lorenzo was unfortunately unable to catch the leaders but was nevertheless satisfied with final fourth position. Giugliano, despite Petrucci’s best efforts to pass him, knew exactly how to defend himself and crossed the line in first place, to celebrate his first win with the Althea Racing team as well as his first ever win in the STK 1000 category. Davide Giugliano “I knew we could do very well today. I wanted to get away and build a gap but Danilo stuck with me with a very fast pace. My rivals were fast but I took advantage of the fact that in certain sections of the track I was faster still. They tried to attack but fortunately I was able to defend my position. It’s a great win, even more than usual because it is my first ever win in the Superstock 1000 category. We gave it our all today. Though at times this might seem to be about one man and a bike, the truth is that a great team is also necessary, a team like Althea Racing. I thank the whole squad that has worked so hard to enable me to take this victory today.” Lorenzo Baroni “The race went quite well but I’m only half pleased because I know we had the pace to be able to reach the podium today. From mid-race, once I was out of traffic, I was lapping with the pace of the leaders. I was going well but unfortunately they already had a few seconds of advantage and so I wasn’t able to close the gap. I was hoping to be able to reach Barrier for third place but we’ll leave that for next time. My compliments go to Davide who rode a really great race today.” Adriano Coppola Team Coordinator of Althea Racing’s Superstock team “It went very well today. We have been in front since Friday and so we were able to confirm in the race that the work carried out in earlier sessions was valid, and we achieved our objective. Davide and Lorenzo knew exactly how to manage the race from start to finish and I thank the team too; I’d say we’ve made a very good start. I’m only sorry that Lorenzo lost time at the start because he too could have been on the podium with the pace he had today, he proved this by making a fastest lap that was even quicker than Davide’s.” More, from a press release issued by Team Pedercini: Team Pedercini rider Bryan Staring rode to fifth place in today’s first round of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup at the Dutch TT circuit. It had been a difficult weekend for Staring after some trying sessions, but today he was able to enjoy himself on the bike and obtain an amazing fifth place finish. Bussolotti’s start was not very fast and in the first laps he lost a lot of positions. With a good race pace and with some fearless overtaking Marco was able to recover positions reaching the fourteenth position and obtaining two points for the championship standing. An unlucky race for Leandro Mercado. The young Argentinian crashed after only three laps when he lost the front wheel through a corner. Marco Bussolotti: “After making a bad start I found a lot of traffic in the first laps and as a result I lost contact with the fastest riders. Around the middle of the race I began to have a better feeling with my bike and I made up some positions. I was able to make some fast laps and to overtake some riders to reach fourteenth position. I am pretty satisfied with the result even if we still have some set up problems”. Bryan Staring :”I’m very happy with this result. My start was good but the first three corners were very difficult for me because I started from the left side of the track and the first three corners were right-handers. I tried my hardest to overtake the riders in front of me even though it’s not easy to pass on this track. But today my bike was working very well and as in the practice, I was more comfortable with used tyres and this allowed me to overtake three riders in the last two laps. The team has worked extremely hard to stabilize the bike set up and I’d like to thank them for their help this weekend”. Leandro Mercado: “What a short race! My start was not so bad, but unfortunately I crashed during the third lap when I lost the front wheel. After this morning’s warm-up, we decided to change something on my bike’s setting and I spent the first few laps of the race getting to grips with my Kawasaki, but I crashed and it was not possible to rejoin the race. Now I’m looking forward to the next race in Monza”.
