ATLANTA (April 8, 2011) Run 1 Racing’s Skip Salenius will skip round 2 of the AMA Pro Racing season at Infineon Raceway May 13-15 in order to give his fractured wrist more time to heal. He suffered the injury March 11 at Daytona International Speedway during qualifying for the National Guard SuperBike season-opener when he got knocked off his #63 Karma Tequila Yamaha R1. Despite a swollen and bruised right hand and after a shot for pain he started both SuperBike races, but had to retire early and was credited with 21st place finishes in both races. “I really didn’t discover I had fractured my wrist and two knuckles until the swelling went down,” said Salenius, who did not require surgery. “I still have a little pain in the two fingers (with the fractured knuckles). I can grip the throttle, but I cannot turn my hand sideways. “It is in my best interest to sit out the race at Infineon, as much as I hate not to race. I will be there to watch and support my team, but I will not race. I have never been to Infineon, so there is no need to try to learn a new track if I’m not 100 percent. I will use the extra two weeks (before the next race at Miller Motorsports Mark) to rest and heal a little more.” Salenius will return for the BigM Weekend, featuring World SuperBike and AMA Pro Racing, at Miller Motorsports Park May 28-30. “I know Utah very well and think with the extra time to heal, I will do better there.”
