In response to questions and requests for information from riders, the FIM held anti-doping briefings at Jerez, Spain during the second event of the 2011 FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix. The briefings were given to the 125cc, Moto2 and MotoGP riders by Dr David McManus, Director of the FIM International Medical Commission, Evelyne Magnin, FIM Medical & Anti-Doping Coordinator and Dr Monica Lazzarotti, FIM Medical International Commission member. The briefings covered many aspects of anti-doping, including: FIM Anti-Doping Programme FIM Anti-Doping Code List of the Prohibited Substances Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) FIM Anti-Doping Control Procedures FIM Registered Testing Pool ADAMS programme Sources of information and Education All riders had the opportunity to ask questions and were given anti-doping educational and information material. Dr David McManus, Director of the FIM International Medical Commission commented: “This was a wonderful opportunity and the first time that the FIM organised such a meeting. It was conducted in a friendly and positive atmosphere; the riders were very interested and asked a number of important and relevant questions. I believe they found it helpful and informative. I would hope that we could arrange similar meetings in the future both in this and other World championships.” After the briefings riders said: 125cc Sandro Cortese (GER): “It was important especially for the younger riders who have not so much experience to know about the procedure of the anti-doping controls and the rules.” Daniel Kartheininger (GER): “I think it is very useful to have an anti-doping briefing because every athlete should know about doping and everyone should be fit without doping, steroïds and other stuff.” Julian Pedone (SUI): “It was interesting to know more about anti-doping and the procedure in case of doping controls”. Louis Rossi (FRA): “It was great to have this meeting and to be informed; however, I think it would have been better to have more time after the meeting to ask questions in private, it is easier for me.” Moto2 Jules Cluzel (FRA): “It was interesting; we have to know more about anti-doping. I have already been tested and we have to know what kind of substance we can take or not”. Thomas Lüthi (SUI): “For me, it was a good meeting but I had the impression that the riders were discovering all about the Registered Testing Pool and ADAMS, and the anti-doping rules. I think this was a good opportunity that the riders could speak to the FIM”. Julian Simon (ESP): “Interesting and positive meeting. I was happy to participate although I already knew about the ADAMS programme”. Michele Pirro (ITA): “It was a positive meeting and necessary that riders were informed about anti-doping. I thank the organisers of this meeting for their good job”. MotoGP Hiroshi Aoyama (JPN): “It was an interesting and important meeting. Most of the riders need to know more about anti-doping”. Marco Simoncelli (ITA): “It was an important meeting as we need more information on Anti-Doping. It is important to realize that if a rider needs assistance, he will get it from the FIM”. Andrea Dovizioso (ITA): “Anti-doping controls are good things, I would be happy if there were even more controls. Also, I am of the opinion that there is a need for such a meeting, at least once a year”¦ In regard to the Registered Testing Pool, my concern is that it is difficult for us, riders, to know exactly our whereabouts information in advance. I hope that the procedure will be easier in the future”. Nicky Hayden (USA): “Obviously, the meeting was useful as the anti-doping rules are not easy as no mistakes should be made and I understand that we need to be in the loop and know what’s going on”. John Hopkins (USA): “The meeting was productive and informative. WADA is a good way to fight against doping which is taking away from the athletes that are trying to come up to the top of their sport in the natural way”.
