Luigi MORCIANO, Italy (APRILIA), -65.273 More, from a press release issued by Mahindra Racing: March 20, 2011, Qatar: Mahindra Racing part of the US $11.1 billion Mahindra Group made its race debut with a fight for a point under the floodlights of the Losail International Circuit for the opening round of the 125cc class of the MotoGP World Championship. British rider Danny Webb made strong progress from 22nd on the grid to be fighting for 15th and the point which it brings for much of the race, just losing the place with just two laps left in the 18 lap race, meaning that Mahindra finished shy of a debut point by just 0.394 seconds. Marcel Schrötter on the second Mahindra GP125 finished in 21st after also being involved in race long battles for position. It was a solid first race weekend for the Indian-owned Engines Engineering designed and built Mahindra GP125. After promising practice sessions, all held at night at the 5.38km circuit, the riders were a mere 0.006seconds apart in qualifying, lining up in 22nd and 23rd on the 30 bike grid. Team Principal Mufaddal Choonia was proud of the team’s debut: “This was an emotional day for us as for the first time the Mahindra GP125 has raced in a World Championship race. By fighting for a point on our debut we think the paddock has seen the promise of Mahindra Racing. “We have been moved by how much support we have received outside of the paddock too, especially with our Facebook page – www.facebook.com/MahindraRacing – which gained over 5000 fans during the course of the race meeting. “Both our riders and the team showed tremendous promise and potential for the season ahead and we hope to be battling our more experienced rivals for points in the very near future.” Leading Mahindra’s charge, 19-year-old Danny Webb from Tunbridge Wells, England, was happy with his race performance: “To finish in 16th after starting in 23rd was a tough battle and I was fighting all the way. I got a good start and was making up places in the early laps, but no-one was having any dramas up ahead so it was difficult to get any further forwards. “It was frustrating to lose out on 15th and a point, but I’m pretty sure we’ll have at least one in the next race.” Eighteen year-old Marcel Schrötter from Pflugdorf, Germany, finished in 21st: “I tried my best today, and I know that myself and the team are improving step by step so I’m positive for the future.” CEO of Engines Engineering, Alberto Strazzari gave his perspective on Mahindra Racing’s debut. “This was a fantastic weekend from an engineering perspective. The bikes have performed very well. The speed of the GP125 was good which means the power from our engine can take the fight to our competition. It was frustrating not to get a point today, but we are hoping for better in the next race.” Mahindra Racing will next be in action at the Spanish GP at Jerez on April 1-3. More, from a press release issued by Blusens Supermartxe by Paris Hilton Team: BLUSENS SUPERMARTXÉ by PARIS HILTON TEAM STARTED OFF THE MOTORCYCLING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MOUNTING THE PODIUM AND WITH TWO RIDERS IN THE TOP TEN, AN EXCELLENT RESULT Losail, 20th March 2011. Blusens SuperMartXé by Paris Hilton team made a fantastic start at the MotoGP world championship opening round GP of Qatar with Sergio Gadea mounting the podium and Maverick Viñales finishing ninth in his first race in the motorcycling world championship. Puçol-born rider who got back to 125 cc class managed to finish third despite he did not make a good start, got overtaken quite a few times and found it difficult to get the right pace. Sergio, who finished sixth, was patient enough to catch up the distance between him and the leaders in the battle for the second and third position and managed to make a proper getaway at the eleventh lap out of the eighteen of this practice session. He then remained in the fourth position over a few laps to finish third at the chequered flag hence snatching 16 valuable points in the battle for the title of world champion. Team-mate Maverick made a good start and got the seventh position straightaway leading the second group made up of 4 pilots. Figueras-born rider made the very best out of the race and remained in the seventh position throughout the session but he graduated to the sixth position five laps before the finish when his three rivals overtook him during the last lap and he then had to put up with this position which is still an excellent result for a debut in the world championship. He managed to get 7 valuable points. Viñales has been the best rookie throughout the weekend and proved he could be a serious contender for the title of rookie of the year. As a tribute to the victims of the latest events in Japan, both Sergio and Maverick bore the Japanese flag on the fairing of their motorbikes. 33 SERGIO GADEA (3rd. 38’37.834, +9.147): “We struggled a bit over the first laps but I think we made the best out of the race overall as I managed to catch up and end up on the podium for my first time since I quit Moto2 class, with everything that involves. The team and I played at the top of our game and even though we are not 100% of our potential I thought we could have done a bit better. I’d like to thank both the mechanics and the technicians for the great job they did. Starting with a podium is encouraging and enables us to score a proper amount of points in the battle for the title but this race was also important for me to fix a few faults in terms of riding and engine. I am very happy and satisfied with my third position as I think it’s very good for the team for the sponsors and for myself. I am ambitious and the one thing that I want is to battle for the title of world champion and that’s why I hope to be more competitive in the next races.” 25 MAVERICK VIÑALES (9th. 38’44.591, +15.910): “I am very happy with what we achieved even if I think we could have done better. We didn’t have the right pace over the first laps and perhaps this is why we couldn’t graduate to the first group. Then we improved our pace lap after lap and we achieved great times too. In the final lap my tyre was quite worn out and we had a tough time Salom and I which prevented me from finishing sixth which was the position I had up to the penultimate lap after leading the group throughout the practice session. I felt more at ease than expected and I think the outcome of this first GP is quite positive. Our performance will keep me in good spirits and give me a lot of confidence for the races to come and I do believe we’ll be able to meet more ambitious goals. Finally I’d like to thank the team for all they have been doing as I think we are on the right track and they have been helping me out a lot.”
