FIRST PERSON/OPINION Via e-mail: Colombian rider Luis Eduardo Peña, age 31, suffered a tragic accident during the first race weekend of the Colombian National Championship, held last Sunday, February 20th at Tocancipa Raceway in Bogota, Colombia. Peña started in 4th position in Amateurcc 600 Race One and crashed. His mechanics repaired his bike for the second race of the day. But in the second race, Peña’s bike’s front brakes failed and he ran off the track, across all the available run-off room and hit an unpadded steel railing. Peña was hospitalized and remained unconscious in critical conditions until today, when he died. As a response to this tragedy, we are starting the Colombian Racing Action Fund (CRAF), modeled after the Roadracing World Action Fund in the United States. The CRAF will raise money to deploy Airfence soft barriers at Tocancipa Raceway. For more information, e-mail me at [email protected] . Santiago Villa AMA Pro Daytona SportBike #32 Bogota, Colombia
