A Superior Court judge has sentenced former motorcycle dealership manager and WSMC racer Jeffrey Whitmer to 12 years in state prison and ordered him to pay more than $262,000 in restitution. Whitmer, 40, was convicted in January on 40 felony counts 20 counts of grand theft vehicle and 20 counts of false financial statements stemming from a series of 20 motorcycle and ATV sales while working at Temple City Power Sports in Southern California. Superior Court Judge Candace Beason in Alhambra handed down the sentence on Monday, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office. According to that statement, Beason also ordered Whitmer to pay full restitution, which is a little more than $262,000, according to Deputy District Attorney Alexander Karkanen of T.R.A.P. (Taskforce for Regional Autotheft Prevention). The string of fraudulent financial transactions occurred between August 4 and December 9, 2009, according to the felony complaint filed against Whitmer. Karkanen says Whitmer assisted another defendant, Mordechai Mor, in filing false credit applications and using false credit cards to purchase the vehicles, which were then sold overseas. The fraudulent transactions came to light, in part, when the motorcycles would wind up in dealerships in the Middle East for repair or maintenance, an investigator on the case said. When those dealerships ran the VIN on those vehicles, they traced back to Temple City Power Sports. Whitmer most recently was employed as manager at Pasadena Yamaha.
