After a very successful test at Eastern Creek in January, Team Honda Racing has completed another valuable test at Phillip Island circuit on February 2nd and 3rd. With a focus on developing the CBR1000RR11 and the new systems that the team now employs, all involved agree the headway made at the second test has been extremely valuable on the road to the first round of the Australian Superbike Championship to be held at the end of the month at Phillip Island. The Motec engine development system is producing very encouraging results in testing so far and Team Principle, Paul Free sees it as a valuable asset to the overall bike package for this season. Free: “Duane Mitchell from Motec has attended both the tests and I am really excited by what we have achieved in such a short space of time. Our SMART shock and fork parts are working well around the Dunlop control tyres and giving both riders exceptional confidence and feel. The team is working extremely well together and although this second test does not place us quite as far advanced as I had hoped it was certainly a success and with another test planned on the 15th prior to our first round, I feel very confident that Jamie and Wayne will both be very competitive come round 1.” #47 Wayne Maxwell: “The test at Phillip Island was an improvement on my first test at Eastern Creek in January and we made a lot of steps forward which I’m really happy about. My new crew chief Shaun Clarke and I are building a good solid relationship through these tests and I’m enjoying working with the team very much. The SMART Racing Components that we are using on the bike are getting better with every outing so that is definitely making my job easier on track. The final test before our first round at the World Superbikes will give us the chance to make the final steps in development of the CBR1000RR11 and I know we will be very competitive for the first Round.” #27 Jamie Stauffer: “We had a chance to try a lot of different bike settings at this second test to see what works best with the new control tyre at Phillip Island and I think we are getting very close now. Overall iI think the test was a success; most of all it gave me a lot more time to get to know the Honda before we race it at the end of the month” The final test for Team Honda Racing, prior Round 1 at Phillip Island will be at the official practice day being held by the series promoter on the 15th February. The team are putting in 110% to ensure that the season opener at the end of the month at the World Superbike Event is a round-winning success.
