American Lands Ride In Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance Race

Kawasaki Team 38 PS-K Adds American Rider and Sponsor for 2011 Suzuka 8 Hour Race Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. R+D test rider, Derek Keyes will join Shigeru Yamashita and Shohei Karita on Kawasaki Team 38 PS-K for this year’s Suzuka 8 hour event. Keyes worked with Yamashita on the development of the all new ZX-10R and both riders bring a wealth of knowledge of the new machine to the team. All three riders have extensive expertise in endurance racing. Yamashita and Karita are both Suzuka 8 hour veterans, Karita co-riding to 6th place on the Beet Kawasaki team in last year’s 8 hour race and Keyes has two full seasons, as well as co-riding to a class championship, in the WERA National Endurance Series. Derek Keyes; “I am honored to join the team for Suzuka. It’s a unique experience to race with this group of guys on a bike we all worked together to develop”. The team name, “Team 38″, comes from the building number of the KHI R+D testing facilities at the Akashi factory (building #38). The team started in 1975 as a motocross racing team and started road racing in 1978 with the main purpose of racing the Suzuka 8 hour. Kawasaki Team 38 is operated by Kawasaki Heavy Industries R+D test riders and was formed in an effort to offer a community race team for the R+D testing staff. The team is privately funded by the riders with help from the team sponsors, and all machine preparations are a community effort of the riders, engineers and mechanics involved with the team.
