CVMA Announces Formula Street, Amateur Classes For 2011 Season Officials at the new Chuckwalla Valley Motorcycle Association have announced plans to host a low-cost, low-preparation class for street riders who want to experience the thrill of racing a sportbike at the edge of its performance envelope. Known as CVMA Formula Street, the sprint race will take place on the Saturdays of CVMA race weekends in 2011. Riders will be required to take a classroom session and have their motorcycles pass a tech inspection that ensures their machines are in good mechanical shape. After a morning practice session, they will be flagged off for their own sprint race as part of the Saturday race schedule. There will be no points or championships for this class, as it is designed to give street-oriented riders a taste of the racetrack. Cost will be $100, and will include classroom instruction, practice and the race. Machine preparation will consist of ensuring that the motorcycle is in good working order, with good tires and brakes, and taping up or removing lights, turn signals and reflectors. In addition, CVMA will offer an Amateur division for its most popular classes. The Amateur division also will not offer points or championships, and is designed for the racer who wants a lower-intensity experience in the sport of motorcycle road racing. Amateur races will be held for Open, Middleweight and Twins motorcycles in Formula and SuperSport configurations. Chuckwalla Valley Raceway, Southern California’s newest purpose-built road racing course, will be the home of the CVMA, the West’s newest motorcycle road racing series. The six-round series kicks off in March and features racing for a wide variety of motorcycles during an entire weekend dedicated to racing. Chuckwalla Valley Raceway is located near Desert Center, California, and is an easy drive from the Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Phoenix metropolitan areas.
