The start of Dunlop’s two-day AMA Pro Road Racing tire test at the newly-repaved Daytona International Speedway is being delayed this morning due to mist at the Daytona Beach, Florida facility. At 10:30 a.m. local time, a light mist and fog were preventing riders from going out on the track’s 2.95-mile infield road course, according to Vesrah Suzuki Team Owner Mark Junge. Weather conditions are forecast to clear later today, but ambient temperatures will only reach into the mid-50s F. Weather.com is forecasting better conditions for Monday with little chance of rain and high temperatures in the 60s. Vesrah Suzuki has brought returning rider Cory West to pilot its GSX-R600 Daytona SportBike machine at the test. Other teams and rider expected to participate are: Celtic Racing/Fast By Ferracci Ducati’s P.J. Jacobsen, Foremost Insurance Pegram Racing BMW’s Larry Pegram, Graves Yamaha’s Josh Hayes and Josh Herrin, Project 1 Atlanta Yamaha’s Benny Solis, Jr. and Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Tommy Hayden and Blake Young. Only a few teams and riders representing each of AMA Pro Racing’s primary classes, Superbike and Daytona SportBike, were invited by Dunlop to this first test. The AMA Pro SuperSport and Vance & Hines XR1200 classes use the same tires as the Daytona Sportbike class. The purpose of the test is to gather data on the newly-paved section of the track. That data will be used to construct new tires to better suit the new asphalt. Those tires will then be evaluated during a test at Daytona in mid-January, which will be open to all AMA Pro teams and riders. All of this work is in preparation for the 2011 AMA Pro Superbike Championship season-opening event March 10-12.
