Once again, three of California’s motorcycle road racing sanctioning bodies will participate in a series to crown a California State Champion in 2011. Racers will compete in three different rounds at three different tracks for the title of Overall Champion, and class championships also will be awarded.
The races will be part of the regular race weekends for each of the organizations. The tentative dates are as follows:
The first round will be held at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in Buttonwillow on the WERA West race weekend on April 23-24. In a new location for 2011, the California State 4-Hour Endurance Challenge is tentatively scheduled for the Saturday of that weekend, with sprint races on Sunday. There also will be a test and tune practice day Friday preceding the event.
“WERA Motorcycle Roadracing is pleased to be once again hosting the California State Championship Series at our April event at Buttonwillow Raceway. We enjoy working with Shandra Crawford and she has developed a great little series for California riders. We will be joined by the Sidecars and will also hope to have our mini racers joining us for the weekend. The schedule for the weekend will be available on our web site (www.wera.com) in early March. An Easter egg hunt will be in order for our young riders and we may even have one for our more mature riders as well stay tuned and be there so you don’t miss any of the weekend’s activities.
“This year’s Buttonwillow event looks to be a great event for all of us now we just need to get Mother Nature not to deal us any surprises and we should be fine!” says Evelyne Clarke, President, WERA Motorcycle Roadracing, Inc.
The second round will be held at Infineon Raceway on the AFM race weekend on July 9-10. There will be a practice day on Friday preceding the event provided by Zoom Zoom Trackdays.
“The AFM is pleased confirm it will again participate in the California State Championship series for 2011. Having the CSC return in 2010 was a great way to cross-pollinate racers from the AFM, WERA and WSMC. There’s no shortage of talent in any of these groups and made for great racing. We expect increased participation after the success of 2010,” says Shawn Reilly, AFM President.
The final round will be at Willow Springs International Raceway on the WSMC race weekend on September 17-18. There will be a 1-Hour Tag Team Relay Race held on Saturday afternoon, and the final round will also have a banquet on Saturday night, and series trophies presented Sunday following the races. The Friday practice day will be presented by Motoyard.com.
“The California State Championship is a great series. Willow Springs Motorcycle Club is proud to be a part of it and happy to participate. The series is great for the sport of road racing, blending riders of the three clubs together. The competition level of the CSC round rises as the riders want to prove their own club is the best. We hope for another strong year with the California State Championship in 2011,” says David McClelland, WSMC Operations Manager.
The state championship will be open to any racer with an Expert license and at least age 16 by the first event in April 2011. Class structures, sponsors, trackside vendors will be announced in a separate release.
