AMA Pro Racing and official control tire supplier Dunlop have scheduled two tests at the newly-repaved Daytona International Speedway (DIS) to prepare for the 2011 AMA Pro National Guard Superbike Championship season-opening event scheduled for March 10-12 at the Daytona Beach, Florida facility, according to an AMA Pro Racing official. A handful of competitors from the Superbike class, which uses slick tires, and some riders who race on DOT-labeled tires will be invited to test at DIS on December 19-20, 2010, according to AMA Pro Racing Technical Director of Competition Al Ludington. This test will be used by Dunlop to gather data from the new racing surface recently laid down on the track’s 2.5-mile tri-oval superspeedway, which makes up portions of the infield road courses used by AMA Pro Road Racing. Dunlop will then use that data to create a second batch of test tires that will then be evaluated by AMA Pro riders during a second test at DIS on January 17-18, 2011. The first test will include only riders and teams that are invited by AMA Pro Racing and Dunlop. The second test will be open to all licensed AMA Pro riders on a shared-cost basis.
