AMA Pro Superbike racer Ben Bostrom, age 36, took the overall race and Solo Men’s Open Division wins in Saturday’s Mellow Johnny’s 6-Hour Classic mountain bike race at Juan Pelota Ranch in Dripping Springs, Texas. Bostrom led from the first lap and held off seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong for several laps, until 39-year-old Armstrong retired after aggravating a knee injury. Armstrong later wrote on his Twitter page: “Dnf here at the @mellowjohnnys 6hr. Been having a few knee issues of late and they flared up today. Quite a bummer. Was feeling pretty good.” Bostrom started his final lap just before the six-hour time limit expired and ended up winning by a margin of one complete lap over second-place finisher Tristan Uhl.
