Hiromichi KUNIKAWA, Japan (BIMOTA), 1:42.829 More, from a press release issued by Interwetten Moriwaki Moto2 Team: Basis Set up ready for Lüthi in Valencia The temperatures and the conditions were better than in Portugal on the first practice day of the season closing Grand Prix of the year in Valencia and Tom Lüthi finished the day with a 8th place in the combined times of the first and second practice sessions. The base set up for this weekend was found already on the first day and also the choice of the tyres was pretty much made today. Only a little problem with the grip level because of the temperature difference in the morning and the afternoon was an issue today and needs some work on the settings before tomorrow’s qualifying session. The team and the rider were satisfied with the first practice day on the Ricardo Tormo Circuit. Tom Lüthi, 8 – 1’37.232: “The first day was quite okay. We still have to do some work with the settings, but we already made the choice for the tyres. The temperature difference gave us some extra work today, as it was cooler in the second practice than in the first and that caused us some grip level problems. But we could work well and just need to continue like this tomorrow.” Terrell Thien, Team Manager: “The first practice was good. Tom had a strong start, just was rolling back a little bit at the end. The base set up we already have a good direction with and just have to built on what we achieved today.” More, from a press release issued by Marc VDS Racing Team: REDDING FIFTH AS FAUBEL STRUGGLES AT VALENCIA Scott Redding got his Valencia weekend off to a flying start by finishing fifth fastest in today’s opening free practice sessions. It was a different story for Hector Faubel though, as set-up issues left the Marc VDS rider down in 28th place at his home circuit. Redding was quick to find a good rhythm during this morning’s 45-minute free practice, which was held in near perfect conditions. The Marc VDS rider worked with his crew to refine the set-up of his Suter MMX machine throughout the session, before claiming sixth position on the timesheet with his final lap. The 17-year-old British youngster continued to improve his feeling with both the bike and the track during the early part of the second free practice session, before turning in a lap that saw him finish the opening day fifth fastest overall and confident of further improvements tomorrow. Faubel endured a difficult day at Valencia, as he struggled to find a workable set-up for the circuit. The Marc VDS rider was down in 35th position after this morning’s session, but slight improvements to the bike saw him move up to 28th at the conclusion of this afternoon’s second free practice. The 27-year-old Spaniard is far from happy with the situation and is determined to make a significant improvement tomorrow, ahead of his home race on Sunday. Scott Redding #45: 5th – 1’36.948 “This afternoon’s session was much better than this morning, because we managed to find a good feeling with the bike towards the end of the 45 minutes. My fastest lap put me third, but then Stefan Bradl and Karel Abraham managed to put in a good lap at the end, which pushed me back to fifth. I’m happy enough with things; we’ve made improvements to the bike little by little and I think there’s still more to come. I’m feeling pretty good, so I’m confident going for qualifying tomorrow, then it’s just a case of blowing them all up on Sunday!” Hector Faubel #55: 28th – 1’37.881 “Today we’ve had some big problems. We made some improvements to the bike this afternoon, but we’re still a long way off where we need to be. The balance of the bike just doesn’t feel right to me; I need to go through the data tonight with my crew and Mike Norton from Öhlins, to see if we can find the big improvement we need for tomorrow. We’re only a second or so off the pace, so it’s not insurmountable. Tomorrow we just need to push even harder, because 28th is not where I want to be at my home race.” Pete Benson: Scott Redding’s Crew Chief “It was a very interesting session this afternoon. We carried on with some development we’ve been doing for the last couple of races and incorporating some of the things we learnt at the Aragon test. Every step we’ve made has made an improvement to problems that we’ve had for a while, so I’m quite confident we’re continuing to move in the right direction.”
