Team Iron Horse BMW/ESP broke another lap record this weekend, although not the one they intended to. The team had planned to race with CCS Southwest in Phoenix for one final stateside shakedown before loading their S1000RR into a crate and shipping it around the world to Macau, where they will be competing in the annual invitation only street race alongside fellow North American riders Jeremy Toye and Mark Miller. However due to unforeseen circumstances they deemed the day better spent at the Inde track on Sunday, where on his second lap of the day, while still on used tires, Chris bettered his own previous lap record by three tenths of a second. By the third and final session, with new tires, Chris was able to lap more than 1.5 seconds under the old track record, with a final time of 1:46.53. The team is currently finalizing packing up the bike and equipment, as the bike will head out this week, with rider and crew following in two weeks. Chris Peris: “I feel really good about how well our bike is coming along this year, and the big difference in lap time between the start of the year and now just proves it to me. I have been riding out at Inde teaching my schools, but we really haven’t tried for a fast lap, as the focus is helping the students. Right away on my first flying lap I was faster than we were after two days of testing here earlier this year, and in three short session we were just over a second and a half faster. Proof that our work is paying off, and also that we are ready for Macau! I definitely plan to take it slow and steady there, as it is a street race, but we will get to the front group by the time it’s race day I think.” Phil Allison: “First, I would like to thank Tyler Smith and Pat Bertinelli from CCS Southwest, for treating us so well, and also for being very understanding when we came to the decision to head to Inde Saturday night after practicing at their event Saturday during the day. We were testing a few new chassis parts, including a shock linkage, and we were having a hard time getting meaningful data on a slightly slick track. Also thanks to RunGP and Kurveygirl.com, two of our great sponsors who are in Phoenix, we wanted to put on a show for them! In the end, testing parts took precedent, and we drove to Inde Saturday night. However Sundays results made it well worth it as we gathered valuable information, both for the Macau event and for next years AMA season, where we will be running the S1000RR again. Roll on Macau!”
