Long Takes Pirelli Diablo 600 Challenge at Homestead

Barrett Long on his Desmomaniacs/Ducati Miami 848 scored the win in the Pirelli Tire sponsored event at the 27th Annual Race of Champions. Long completed the regulation 10 laps in 15 minutes 20 seconds with a margin of victory of 19 seconds and an average lap time of 1:32.015. Kevin Mendez aboard a second Motocorse Performance Ducati 848 took the runner-up slot and Mark Miller on the Mar Del Auto Whole Suzuki GSXR 600 finished out the podium. Alex Shaw and Erik Brown rounded out the top five. 

The Race of Champions is an annual invitational runoff among the season’s CCS champions from all regions across the United States. The Pirelli Diablo 600 Challenge is a spec tire class where riders maximize their cash payout by using products from Pirelli, Dragon Racing Fuels, Full Spectrum (batteries), SebiMoto (body work) and Traxxion Dynamics (suspension).

Championship Cup Series Race of Champions and Michelin Pro Series Wind Up 2010 Season

Homestead, FL 

The Championship Cup Series brought the CCS Race of Champions and Michelin Pro Series’ finales to Homestead, Florida for the running of the 27th annual battle of season race winners from across the United States. Competitors from as far away as Arizona, Wisconsin, and most of the rest of the seven CCS/ASRA Regions descended on South Florida to settle scores and renew friendships as they fought for national title bragging rights. 

Notable winners in this year’s battle were James Cohrs of Suwanee, Georgia, having won multiple amateur championships in 2009 finished 2010 with more success knocking down his first expert national title in Formula-40. Chris Dodd of Mills River, North Carolina tallied four amateur national titles including CCS ThunderBike. Sean Cassell brought home four amateur titles including Heavyweight SuperBike and Middleweight Grand Prix. Stefano Mesa another multiple race winner with expert Middleweight SuperBike, Grand Prix, and SuperSport, as well as the 125 GP. 

Race entries for the three-day event hit 559 on Sunday afternoon. The championship settling races were followed by the 2010 National title awards presentation in the Homestead Miami Speedway Media Center.
