New Hampshire Motor Speedway – The eighth and final round of the Loudon Road Racing Series (LRRS) 2010 season ran under cool temperatures and a slower track surface. Twenty six class championships were settled. Grand Champion- LRRS veteran, Rick Doucette, earned the overall number 1 plate for 2010. Competing in eight sprint races every round, Doucette won a whopping seven class championships and one runner-up position. Doucette commented on his remarkable season; “Coming into the 2010 season, I set out with the goals to ride as many races as possible, win championships and see if it would be enough to take the overall #1 Plate. This season has been a lot of work, building and maintaining all my own bikes, but in the end I accomplished all my goals. Heading into this final weekend I had my championships and the #1 Plate locked up, but I raced all eight races because that’s why we come here. It’s been a lot of fun.” Rick Doucette is sponsored by Plaistow Powersports, Dunlop Tires, Vanson Leathers and GMD Computrack. Scott Greenwood wrapped up six championships aboard his Argo Cycles Yamaha YZF-R6. He found new speed early in the season and proved to be the dominant middleweight rider for 2010; “It’s been great season. From being more involved with the Penguin School, to racing against the younger guys coming up in our series has been very motivating. Seeing guys like Cronin, Narbonne, Hildebrand and others improve each weekend has pushed me to try harder and has made me a better rider as well. It’s funny, I remember being the ‘young guy’ and battling the ‘veterans’. Now I know how those guys felt! I have really enjoyed it and am looking forward to next season.” In addition to Argo Cycles, Greenwood is sponsored by Dunlop tires, Vanson Leathers, Arai Helmets, Heroic Racing, Spectro Oils, Woodcraft, Penguin Road Racing School and Sweeney Racing Engines. Lightweight Superbike- The most thrilling race of the weekend featured a four bike freight train of top lightweight racers with a shock finish. Coming back from injury, Spears Racing Enterprises’ Todd Babcock grabbed the holeshot aboard his fast Suzuki SV650. Souhegan Valley Motorsports’ Scott Mullin filed into second aboard his Kawasaki but was soon displaced by a determined Rick Doucette. Meanwhile, Peter Gaboriault grabbed the tow and hung on tight. For six laps the four bikes ran nose to tail, with nobody showing the slightest advantage. Coming up on heavy traffic going into the bowl, Babcock and Doucette were balked, allowing Mullin to jump on both and come out of turn 9 with the lead. On the white flag lap, Mullin put the hammer down and pulled a gap to the stripe over Babcock, Doucette and Gaboriault. Scott Mullin in his garage; “I got by Rick in turn six. Todd got pinched off and I went around him on the outside of turn nine. I thought they were right on me so I tried to use the traffic and get a gap. As soon as I hit a clear track I rode as hard as I could.” Todd Babcock; “Scott had a beautiful ride. There were two groups of lappers and a waving yellow. Scott made a better choice and got by both of us. It was an awesome race and I had a lot of fun.” $1500 Dash for Cash- Starting from the pole, Scott Greenwood pulled a low power wheelie coming off the line and was immediately mugged by Christian Cronin aboard his fast starting Eggshell Yamaha. Shane Narbonne jumped onto Cronin’s tail section from the second row and brought Cory Hildebrand with him. Blocked down low in turn one, Greenwood yielded the line and came out in fourth place. Cronin was on fire and started laying down laps in the mid-elevens with Narbonne matching him aboard his DAS Performance GSX-R600. On the second lap, Greenwood got by Hildebrand and set about reeling in Narbonne. Later, Greenwood commented; “By the time I got by Cory, Shane was pretty far up there. I started running him down but it just wasn’t happening fast enough. I could see ahead of him that Christian was getting smaller.” Greenwood managed to get by Narbonne on the fourth lap with an outside pass into turn 1, but by then Cronin was almost gone. He managed to close it up in the late laps, but not enough to seriously threaten Cronin’s lead. At the flag Cronin took a jubilant win over Greenwood, Narbonne, Hildebrand and Brent Lyskawa aboard his Bruce Transportation Yamaha. All five raced on Dunlop DOT labeled race tires. Podium announcer, Bruce Berlanger to Christian Cronin; “A great race Christian”¦ Tell us about it.” “I felt really good. The best part is that I was able to ride that pace by myself, not chasing anybody. It’s a great feeling.” The LRRS 2010 Championship Awards Banquet is scheduled to be held on November 13th in Manchester, NH.
