Alton, Virginia, USA Round 7 of the Michelin Pro Series sanctioned by ASRA saw plenty of action as fans watched all four class races split between four different riders. In Michelin Pro ThunderBike Ducati of Indy rider and 2010 ASRA Champion Joel Spalding took the win piloting his Ducati 749 past Joey Thomas on a Ducati 1000. Spalding’s win seals the ThunderBike season championship with a 61-point gap back to Buell rider Jay Smith in just 7 rounds of action. Completing the ThunderBike podium was Eric Helmbach aboard a Suzuki SV650. In Michelin Pro SportBike Suzuki 600 rider Mark Miller of North East, MD took the win. RNR Repsol rider Rick Beggs finished third in spite of a blown transmission. But Beggs inherited the runner up spot in a surprising development when SportBike points leader Mike Selpe was disqualified for being 6 pounds underweight, having run out of fuel on the pit road at the end of the race. This result leaves Selpe with a slim 27-point lead over Miller going into the last round at Homestead. In Michelin Pro SuperBike Mark Miller is the points leader but yielded the win at VIR to a stellar performance from Yamaha rider James Cohrs of Suwanee, GA. Miller holds a thin 8-point lead over 5-time ASRA Champion Jeff Wood. Jason Ferrell is now third in 2010 SuperBike points. And in Michelin Pro SuperStock Tim Bemisderfer took his BMW 1000 to the class victory in dominating fashion leaving Suzuki riders Scott Carpenter and David Loikits and KTM rider Bob Michael to duke it out for second. Carpenter bettered Michael for the number two step on the podium. Loikits was fourth. After this round in the ASRA SuperStock points battle Joel Spalding holds a 25-point lead and need only finish 14th or better at the final round in Homestead, just three weeks away. The Michelin Pro Series sanctioned by ASRA resumes Sunday October 17, 2010, with the 8th and final round at south Florida’s Homestead-Miami Speedway.
