Team Cycle World Attack Performance Yoshimura Suzuki’s Eric Bostrom and Jordan Suzuki’s Brett McCormick were racing for fifth place on the final lap of Saturday’s AMA Pro National Guard Superbike race at Barber Motorsports Park when McCormick attempted a pass that ended with Bostrom being taken to the hospital in an ambulance. “It was my fault,” admitted McCormick. “I was trying to go up the inside of him. I had been following him for a few laps and knew I wanted to pass him there [the final right-hander on the track]. I even tested my front tire in a few corners to make sure I had enough grip left, and I had no slips. “I went to make my move and maybe I had too much lean angle or it was too dirty where I went, but I crashed. I wish I would have held onto the bike so it didn’t go into him so hard, but it got him pretty good.” McCormick was able to pick his GSX-R1000 up and cross the line 10th, but Bostrom had to be attended to by medical staff at the scene. Apparently, a part of one of the motorcycles sliced through Bostrom’s leathers and into his thigh, cutting a deep, wide and bloody laceration that required immediate medical attention. A cell phone photo of Bostrom’s wound looked like something out of a horror movie. Luckily, no arteries or major veins were ruptured, they said. “I feel bad,” McCormick said, before he knew of the extent of Bostrom’s injury. “I don’t like crashing, and when you take someone else out it’s so much worse. I wish it didn’t happen.” Eric Bostrom was not immediately available for comment. Updates to follow.
